Peter Moore About Peter EA Support

FIFA and Madden Earning Great Acclaim

I'm back from an excellent trip to GamesCom.  Having shifted this year to Cologne, the organizers of this year's event and participating publishers and hardware manufacturers should be applauded for presenting such a compelling showcase for our medium.  The combination of great games, big announcements and flawless logistics, complemented by a perfect August window, made for an event that certainly rivals E3 now as the most important milestone on the game industry calendar ... just ask any of the nearly 250,000 people who were in attendance (yes, this was a consumer event after trade-only on day one).

Aside from our demos and news around FIFA and EA SPORTS Active More Workouts at EA's Tuesday press briefing, the biggest headline of the show had to be from Sony.  As I told a number of people last week, Sony's price drop is coming at the perfect time, it's great for gamers and I'm optimistic that it can mean very good things for us at EA SPORTS, where we know titles like Madden and NCAA Football have always had a very strong base of fans on Sony hardware.

Bottom line - this was a great inaugural effort from Cologne, and I left the show energized and optimistic, both for the industry, and for introducing EA SPORTS to more PS3 players.

As exciting as it was to see how popular FIFA was in Europe, I also watched with delight as reports came in about Madden's success out of the gate in North America.  Madden has its highest critical acclaim in five years, and online engagement continues to show extraordinary growth year over year within EA SPORTS games.  In the first weekend alone, Madden became our first title to ever hit 100,000 peak simultaneous users - nearly 10,000 more people than can fit in the NFL's largest stadium. And...more than 5.6 million online games were played during the opening week; the equivalent of over 21,000 NFL regular seasons!

While we are still cautious about worldwide economic conditions, this type of continued growth in our online experiences makes us feel very strong about where we're placing our bets right now in development and as a business and it makes us optimistic with the trends we're seeing with Madden.

Congrats to our passionate and hard-working team at Tiburon who should be applauded for listening to Madden Nation and delivering the product fans have been begging for.

Before I go, two final items on GamesCom:

*If you missed the video we released last week, please check it out here then go to the poll on Football World and let us know what you're most excited about with the new game.

*We were happy to welcome World Heavyweight Boxing Champion Wladimir Klitschko to our booth during the show.  I was delighted to see how big a fan he is of our industry and of Fight Night Round 4.

Peter stop it. LOL I just can't stop laughing. The product fans have been begging for. Do you actually think I've been begging for a bare bones superstar mode. Do you guys ever read any forums besides EA forums. Try something like gamefaqs. There is a lot of good comments but also a lot of bad. I will admit the game play over all is the best it has been in some years, but sadly to say this game still isn't as good as NFL 2K5. And I don't mean that as an insult because Madden 10 is way better than Madden 09, but NFL 2K5 is just better. And what's sad about that statement is I've always been a Madden fan. I only bought 2K5 because I didn't have a job and it was only $20.

I'm still laughing at that "the product fans have been begging for" comment. LOL Like I've really been waiting to pay $60 for a game just to pay more at the madden shop. LOL That's the creative game feature fans have been begging for. Peter you need to stop it.

But on a serious note, as long as you guys "believe" you are putting out a good product, fans will never get another good football game anytime soon. Please stop looking at the number of copies sold, and sit down and play the game then fix the bugs. This game sells because people love football and this is the only game in town.

whowantsit56, what would you like to see added to Madden NFL 11? Be specific and give as much detail as possible.

I haven't played Madden 10 yet so I can't comment on what it is or isn't doing correctly.  The above comments reflect my feelings for NCAA 10.  My ideas for how to improve this game are documented in the NCAA Football 11 Wishlist which is stickied on the NCAA Football forums.  The above poster might want to start a similar thread so that others with similar concerns can go post their comments.  Maybe this could be a thread entitled "EA please fix with next patch"  I doubt that the issues can be resolved before Madden 11 but you can always try.

I wish there was a way to combine my two personas.  I had posted a bulk of my posts under the Aggiefan4life2 persona but I actually had to use a real e-mail address to sign up for Tiger Woods Online.  My concern is that I won't have enough posts to qualify for the beta although my posts on this blog have never counted towards my post totals.

Aggie,

You should be able to get access to the beta.  Let me know if that isn't the case and I'll see about having you added.

I just got an email saying that I have been accepted.  I guess this means that part 3 of the beta has started.  Will have to play a lot of golf this afternoon.

Rugby? No news? Guess not? Not from EA! Reply or answer EA client questions? Not in this lifetime.... Its frustrating, shamefull and extremely unprofessional at the same time. I must say that since I have started enquiring about rugby I have not received a single reply from anybody at EA... Shocking guys absolutely shocking. I cant stress enough how disapointed I am.

I agree with the SpringBook Fan,

After 3 years of Next Gen Gaming not a single Rugby game. A great fan base, a great sport which is played in both emisphere and no whatsoever news about it. Just hire the guys behind Jonah Lomu and tell them to make a new game with ur fifa/madden techonology...

Things don't seem to be changing at EA...i had hope Peter would actually give them some sparks, but no, same company policy on poor madden  updates and same game portfolio. Not to mention pc gaming has been declared dead by EA.

Fifa is good though, but that's not enough. Cricket and Rugby need some attention fgs.

Come on peter, throw away your corporate statement and tell us something interesting.

I hate posting off topic, but please Mr. Moore bless us hardcore boxing fans with a realistic representation of boxing. I have been boxed and played games a great deal of my life. Most boxers are not into games as they say. I'm a gamer....a sports gamer. Fight Night is the basement dwelling stepchild of the sports gaming franchises at EA.

I don't know if you have anyone do research on what the fans really want but the majority want boxing represented in it's purest form without the additives.  Here's a wishlist I compiles with some other fans.(I scanned the internet too)
