Peter Moore About Peter EA Support

Mr. President: We Have a Challenge For You

My ears perked up earlier this week when I read some of the news reports following President Obama’s remarks at the annual meeting of the American Medical Association in Chicago.  During the President’s speech on health care reform, he said: "It means going for a run or hitting the gym, and raising our children to step away from the video games and spend more time playing outside."

As a father of three and someone who spends many a morning or lunch hour out on a run and/or in the gym, I applaud the President urging Americans to get off the couch and get active.  Of course, I can’t resist pointing out that while I’ve always wholeheartedly endorsed moderation in anything you do, including playing games, it may be time for the President and his family to put their Wii to good use and fire up the 30-Day Challenge with EA SPORTS Active.  This is a “game” even the President may not want to “step away” from.

To be clear, there has always been an big place in the lives of my entire family for spending time outside and staying fit.  But I continue to be excited about what EA SPORTS Active is bringing to the world of physical fitness and the way it is changing people’s lives in the process – whether you’re someone who hasn’t broken a sweat in 10 years or someone who hits the gym six days a week.  In fact, I know he’s in pretty good shape, but I guarantee the President wouldn’t look quite so smooth walking across the White House lawn to Marine One the morning after his first session with EA SPORTS Active (especially if he does those pesky lunges)!

You’ve heard me say it so many times before, but it’s refreshing to see the opportunities we have now on the Wii and what some of the new motion control technologies in development at Microsoft and Sony may bring to enhance an at-home fitness experience like EA SPORTS Active.  In fact, I’d be willing to bet there are more consoles getting far more use in American homes than there is exercise equipment, so it’s up to us to continue to use the platform for good.

Mr. President, here is my challenge to you: Try EA SPORTS Active and I guarantee you’ll need aides saying “Yes You Can!” to finish your first workout.

Shifting gears, I mentioned last week that it was great to be back at E3 this year to feel the energy and excitement that is always swirling around this industry, particularly after my well-publicized complaints of the previous year.  Of course, the days after the show are always fun as we watch for all the awards that are announced by so many of the news outlets who covered the show.

While it’s tough for EA SPORTS since all of our products are pitted against each other in the “Best Sports Game” category (don’t even get me started about whether I think any of our games should be considered beyond just the sports category), I was pleased to see more than 40 nominations for EA SPORTS, including at least one nomination for every award-eligible title we had at the show.  Four different titles were also named winners, including Madden, Fight Night, Tiger Woods PGA TOUR and NHL.

In the case of Madden, kudos to the team at Tiburon for getting the nod for Best Technical Achievement by G4 on top of its multiple wins for Best Sports Game.  The new Online Franchise mode in Madden didn’t just beat out other worthy contenders in sports, but bested G4’s other finalists like Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, The Beatles: Rock Band, and Mass Effect 2 (among others).  It’s further evidence of sports games being leaders in innovation, particularly with online where we’re connecting sports fans from around the world and throughout the season with experiences we could have only dreamed about a few years ago.

One of the highlights of our press conference was the video for Madden Online Franchise. MOF is a football fan’s dream come true and if you didn’t see the video, we have it for you here. Enjoy!

Franchise mode looks great for Madden.

It appears that we differ in political views but that's OK.

Your campaign with the president might be better waged with better publicity and/or emailing the pres. directly.  Can you see the headline on CNN?  EA Sports CEO challenges the president of the United States.  That would be some big PR for EA Sports.

I have to agree with aggiefan that a direct challege would be great PR for EA Sports.  Personally, since POTUS is part roll model it would be a great example for the country if he did publically take up the challege along with Michelle.  They both are already fit but publically persuing a fitness program, especially given how much his persona is in the public eye, moreso than any President I can remember, it would be a boon for both EA and American's getting fit.

Also regarding EA Active...please, please, please bring it to the other consoles when technolgy permits (I realize it needs motion control so it may be a year before that is available for 360 and PS3.)   I've been into fitness most of my life and I'd love to try it but I don't have a wii and it would take more than one program to convince me to get one.

I have a challenge for you sir........................

but first let me commend you...  and then the challenge.

Nice NiCE  NICE  work on the Demo of NCAA football 10 ie.. pursuit angles, animations, PLAYER LOCK camera, over shoulder catches, sometimes throw out of sack, pocket protection (too long though)  and any other game play thing put into NCAA FOOTBALL 10...

But call it what it is NCAA 9.5  great upgrade, it must of took a lot of work and it is well needed...

but you will trick me into next year wanting pro tak and qb feel the rush  from to be last years madden and make me forget my challenge to you...

I played NCAA 09 for about 6 hours  but i spend 70-100 hours a year researching your Ncaa game on web sites to see if this is the years to really invest time in playing...  I played over 100 hours plus on psp Ncaa 07  last year  and the new 09 did nothing for me and I think you missed a Psp year  because it was as close to Ps2 game as i was willing to go with out rebuying a Ps2. I bought  your 2 grand next gen promise (1080p tv included)  in the false promise of building on that Ps2 game version 07 ...and when you took out UMASS i thought would be the only disgrace but your company allowed many with out even coming yet close to Ps2 ncaa 07 as far over dynasty and play feel..

your working on game play to your credit but fix the atmosphere.....in NCAA 11

NOW to the

real Challenge

FIrst write on community website interview or ad in the NY TIMES or front page EASports.com or right here in your own blog commenting on this link

www.bing.com/.../search

tell me your game feels and looks the same... honestly tell me (us).

your fixing madden with the feel things but you ignored NCAA 10 and YOU even have some of the same problems in Madden STILL

IF YOU POST SOME REAL COMMENTS ON SIDELINE CROWD SIZE AND CROWD NOISE LEVELS

AND DYNAMIC WEATHER..  chain gangs/ refs/ etc ... and THAT THEY MIGHT BE ADDRESSED NEXT YEAR I WILL SPEND MY HARD EARNED MONEY AGAIN AND BUY NOT ONLY YOUR GAME THIS YEAR BUT A SYSTEM TO PLAY IT ON (family member took mine to college)

are your sideline crowds big enough

do your crowds ride the emotion of the game.. a sack or interception or big hole run

does weather really play a factor on a play

how about weather that is dynamic stops and starts like real stuff

a team might start passing if rain let up etc.

does the pressure of the big game really affect some players..

show me with ratings drop before game something.. that makes each game feel a little different.

watch the on the link 6:00 minute mark on till 7:00  the crowd explodes every sack or int..

how about a few sighs from the crowd for a blown play..

stop your crowds from jumping in unison.. or the players...  like dancers

for that matter post a link or two of your own and tell me about the college atmosphere.

compare your screens to the real thing...  I am not asking for lifelike players just crowd explosions in the right spot and a crowd and camera crew that will show up for the big game and commentary to match...

YOUR stadiums look great but they are stale...

the crowds don't live and breathe...

examples that don't happen

running back looks stopped, slips wide and off he goes and the crowd explodes  see six minute mark on link

an interception that is part of a tight game that seals the win or give the team hope must include a crowd level I only hear once ...  or twice a game...

suggestions

LARGER SIDELINE CROWDS  I don't care if the move just fill em..  you put all those people on the field in Notredame Stadium (on field crowd) for some reason and it doesn't mess with game..  put the rest..

Dynamic crowds- show up not for preset rivalry but lets say Rutgers v. Lousiville 07 huge game to decide a conference or bowl berth..

the sideline should have double the cameras and such.. and a game against Also-ran U. should have no one..

see Stubhub.com and follow ticket prices easy judge how to fill stadiums

WEATHER   -mud that tears up the field and causes dropped balls and fumbles.

RESPONSIVE CROWDS- sighs, possible boos, crowds that leave or don't show up didn't play enough to see in 09,  levels of volume that are not reached except for special games or plays.

in dynasty I would love at least a one year carry over of events  (Story lines from NHL 10)???

if I get blown out by 60 or throw six TD or six int on a given opponent from last year the announcers should tell me..

how about my back has ran for six games in a row 100 yards... something instead of repeat repeat repeat commentary...

how about my team saying Tebow or Qb15 won't get a 200 yards passing how about that for a game plan instead of aribartary

I know your busy and I want a lot but I invest a lot in your product(time and money) and so some of my favorite sites that write a lot better than me...

pastapadre.com  and operationsports.com

to bad they focus on stuff like jerseys and towels and miss the fact that  NFL 2k is the mark for atmosphere and let all the silly stuff get in the way..

the player models suck       but the fog and the intros and the announcers and the replays are legendary.. we are all just too dumb to  stop buying until it gets fixed because we are too scared to miss winning with our favorite teams..

I bought the controller and game last year for a hundred plus  for a handful of hours and willing to did all over again all in hopes for what.......next year..........that sucks.......

please please just don't give me the apple app for NCAA 11 and think that's enough

Thats is a great 3rd comment. Mr. Moore I appreciate all that you do for the community. However, your challenge to the President should be directed at you and your Lead Producers on your games. I think NCAA 10 is somewhat of a letdown this year. It is a simple rebuild of NCAA 09 with the addition of Teambuilder and Season Showdown. Now, Madden made great strides this year to improve, and for that we thank you, but NCAA took the back seat and that is unacceptable.

1. Lets add real life weather. Make is start raining during a game, or stop raining during a game.

2. Lets see the crowds more excited

3. Get rid of Collinsworth and get Aikman or Joe Buck!!

4. Late Hits on QBs trying to run out of Bounds!! Throw the Flag Please!!!!!!!!!!

5. I played football in HS and College. Football players bleed all season long!!!

Not sure if you knew that!! No Call Of Duty Blood, just dripping from elbow, or shin. On white

   uniforms !!!

6. Make the right team celebrate on fumble recoveries!!! PLEASE

7. ESPN Highlights from around the league!! You have them, so use THEM!!!!

8. Salary Cap in Online Dynasty.

Most of these could apply to both games. Are these asking for too much?????

Lots of NCAA feedback coming in early.  Game doesn't release until July so lets keep our fingers crossed that EA Sports can fix the errors that are currently in the game.

It seems like a rehash of last year which isn't good since 09 was a rehash of 08.  But there was the promise of School Spirit which never translated into much as far a gameplay goes.  The teambuilder option looks good but I am unsure of why the FCS Division 2 opponents can't be put into the game.  This was a question that was asked numerous times in the development forums.  Is EA Sports really listening to the gamers or is this some cute marketing phrase that Peter Moore has come up with?

2.5.09 was the last time that the NCAA Staff Development page was updated so again is EA Sports truly listening?  This question has been asked of Peter Moore for many months now but he has refused to address the question.  Ignore the question and hope it goes away seems to be the policy for EA Sports.  Clearly this policy goes from the top and it is affecting the development team as well.

Is there any chance that players holding the football with two hands while weaving through would be tacklers will be an animation in Madden 10...When a real NFL player catches a football with one hand they must first secure the football with two hands before they tuck the pigskin away.  In the Madden 10 videos there an unrealistic animation of Kellen Winslow catching the ball with one hand and then some how tucking it away without the use of his other hand.    Many players instead of tucking the football away under one arm hold the ball with two hands on the it as they matriculate up the field. Here are a few photos that display how actual NFL players carry the football with both hands on both punt and interception returns.  In my humble estimation, It would be a great animation to see a player like Charles Woodson carry the football with two hands prior to palmng the ball with one hand on an interception return.  Also it would be great as well as to have unbuckled chin straps on one side of certain players helmets helmets.  Please relay this message to Ian, Phil, Raczilla and any other of the Madden development team who could hopefully make these addition to Madden 10

prior to its August release.

I thought we got rid of him.  Just a matter of time before the "sock pictures" start taking up three pages...Some people have too much time on their hands...

For those that don't know.  EA only makes a truly new game in a franchise (NHL, NCAA, etc) once every nine years.  Other than that, they just re-hash the old ones with a roster update.  They wonder why the NHL series had declining sales on the PS2 and PC.  Well, we were playing the same game with a roster update since 2004.  Nothing was really new except the rosters and the soundtrack.  Even then, the soundtrack was usually a "who's that" of the pop-rock industry.

Unsure if this has been confirmed or not but it appears that the NCAA series has been selling fewer copies for the past 3 years.  Is EA Sports truly listening to their fans?  Wouldn't that translate to more sales if EA Sports were truly listening to their fans?  Obviously, fans are finding reasons to not buy the game year after year.

I keep hoping for Head Coach elements to be implemented in the game.  You can coach or you can play the game.  Your choice.  How about that for a marketing effort?  Maybe this could include some gameplanning elements.  Career mode with the ability to start off at a small school has been requested.  The ability to hire/fire coordinators/coaches has been requested but EA Sports has ignored our requests.  So you have a game that continues to sell fewer copies for at least three years now.

The College Hoops series was always regarded as the superior product in College Basketball but EA Sports hasn't learned from that experience.  March Madness is still going through name changes and it will probably eventually be axed simply because EA Sports doesn't listen to their consumers.  I stayed away from the game simply because there was nothing compelling about the game.  There was no feature that made me want to buy the game.

This is probably the way that NCAA football fans feel.  I will pick it up as usual but I have to admit that there aren't a whole lot of great new features to look forward to.  Sorry to be negative about an upcoming title but I think that it is time for EA Sports to start listening to the consumer and maybe sales will go up instead of down.

Hi Peter. No news regarding rugby? The British and Irish lion’s tour is almost finished and I was hoping that there would have been news by now? Over 70 000 fans came to South Africa this year to support the lions, not a bad figure if you consider that these fans are but only a very small percentage of fans that are following the test series. I still think it would have been a great time to launch a new rugby game, more or less what you did with Rugby 08 during the world cup, since the lions tour only takes place every four years.

Are you aware of the amount of people interested in a new rugby game? I suppose and hope that you are!? Otherwise you would not have been a very good president of EA Sports... so let’s just say that you are aware. I have no idea why you’re not currently interested in developing a new rugby game for the 360 and ps3. I'll take a few swings in the dark and you can tell me whether I'm wrong or right. OK?

Let’s see: Rugby 08 didn’t sell as well as you wanted it too? That can also be because, and please let’s be honest here, the fact that EA did not make much of an improvement from 06 to 08? You guys were trying to make a quick buck because of the world cup and rushed the game to get on the shelves on time... and then it back fired a bit, didn’t it? And because of that you are convinced that it’s the fans that aren’t interested in playing the game they are so passionate about on a console. Your words probably were "narrow minded rugby bums! No point in doing this again!" Never taking into account that if you tried a bit harder and approved a slightly bigger budget; about half of what you spend to develop Madden for instance, the game would have been a bigger success? And don’t get me wrong, I have over 100 games mostly from EA, but Rugby is my favorite by a landslide! I love it, really love it! But I think in a way you are a victim of your own success. Only because you set the bar so high with Madden, NHL, Tiger and all the other sport brands. So it only makes sense that the people were disappointed with 08 because they knew what EA is capable of, felt a bit short changed, word got around and for obvious reasons people didn’t buy it.

The other possibility is licensing? Maybe the IRB, all unions and franchises involved are giving you a hard time? Although I can’t see it though. I mean along with MMA, rugby is one of the fasted growing sports in the world. And I know the IRB is on a mission to globalize the game and take it to all corners of the world and EA rugby would only help that mission along. So it would be for their benefit at the end of the day.

To honest the thing that throws me the most is the fact that you told ps3 magazine last year that we must be on the lookout for rugby and cricket on the next gen consoles. Any way hope to get an answer soon.

The President has declined the challenge siting the reason that it's the same challenge that's been asked for the past five years, just with a roster update.

Hmmm, sounds like the NHL series doesn't it.....

Hey peter can you pass these videos along to Ian, Phil and the boys...Its 2 videos of how d-backs like Asante Samuel hold the football when they intercept a pass.  I think adding an animation like the two handed ball carry could really add to Madden 10..

Thank you for the response.

I almost didn't notice your response.  Normally, I check the current topic and that's it.

I just have this feeling that NCAA 10 will be very similar to 09 with a handful of improvements and I have been hoping for more.  I keep hoping for a game that is designed for coaches and players alike.  I would like the ability to hire/fire coordinators as a coach.  I would like the ability to work as an assistant at a small school and get an opportunity to become a head coach.  Gamebreaker did this many years ago so I can't figure out why EA Sports is having so much trouble catching up to a game that has been dead for at least 6 years now.  I am sure that it has been longer but I don't know the actual date.  The NCAA Basketball game got the visuals right last year but the gameplay is still the same.

I want the recruiting process to go much more in-depth.  I would like to see a campus legend mode where you feel what it is like to be a highly recruited player.  How about the ability to really control the recruiting process just as coaches do in real life?  As of 09's game, you didn't have the option to start a coaching dynasty after completing campus legend.  This was in PS2 versions of this game.  Is it really that difficult to program into the next generation consoles?  I think it has more to do with bad staff.  We get to pay 10 dollars more for a game that does less than its predecessors?  If you are going to put less into the game then why not charge 10 dollars less?

The NCAA Basketball game got the visuals right last year but the gameplay is still the same.  College Hoops did things better and I will buy their game if it ever returns to the market over March Madness or whatever name it will go by this year.  EA Sports is committed to slapping a new number on an old game and then announcing that is done.

The NCAA Football sales are declining and have been for at least 3 years now.  Maybe it is time for EA Sports to shake up the game and make it in a different way.  I could argue for the College Basketball game but I still hold out hope that EA Sports will actually listen to their fans with that game.

I realize that the game is probably finished and very few changes will be made be to it but please realize that I had been following the development forums and very few of the ideas posted are actually being implemented in the game.  There was communicating to the users of those forums that the forums had been moved so users kept posting there with ideas.  I guess EA Sports really wasn't listening this year.  The fact that the development forums moved is just a conveinent excuse to use when users compain about buying another recylced  product from EA Sports.  Right Peter Moore?  Right Raczilla?

<><><><>><><>><>><><>><>><>><><><><><><><>><><>><><>><><><><><><><><>

=====================================================================

Mr. Moore,

As a long time fan of the madden franchise, I implore you to visit the Madden NFL General Discussion forum, and you will see why so many people are dissatisfied with this years edition of Madden NFL 10. Loyal fans feel slighted by the trend of micro transactions, and pick up and play game play. That, coupled with the bugs, glitches, adn design decision of Ian Cummings, not to mention his promotional lies, have turned many gamers away, and will continue to do so!

i don't know sir, if you are a fan of NFL football, or have the amount of respect and love that Madden gamers have for the namesake, but we as a whole feel an injustice and disservice is being done to the game with it's current release. look here www.youtube.com/watch , and you will see some of the poor design decisions made by the current team, and then go to the forums and read some of the complaints. You will quickly begin to realize the the base group of consumers who purchase this product are dissatisfied with it's game play and direction. In short Madden NFL 10 is a poor representation of gameplay and presentation to what we see on Sunday, or have been expecting from a company who has had 5 years of uncontested development on this one particular property. I Thank you in advance for any effort you take, or reading this sir.

Sincerely,

a former loyal Madden gamer.
