Welcome to Peter Moore's Official Blog

In this blog you'll see what Peter thinks about sports, sports video games, and the industry in general. We hope this gives you an inside look at EA SPORTS, so please enjoy!

Peter Moore About Peter EA Support

The New and Improved E3

I'm back from a great week at E3 in Los Angeles and pleased to see the feedback we got on our product lineup at the show. As you might have seen this week, Madden NFL 10 won The Technical Achievement - Software Award from G4 and Sports Game of the Show 1Up. Fight Night Round 4 also received Best Sports Game of the Show from G4.

We went from workouts to tap-outs last Monday at EA's press conference - with news about EA SPORTS Active, a great live demo of Fight Night Round 4, and of course the announcement of EA SPORTS MMA in development at Tiburon. With top fighters and fighting styles from around the world, and our typical authenticity to the real sport, I'm telling you this will be the most intense MMA game to date.

It was also quite a thrill to spend time with Pete Sampras as part of our Grand Slam Tennis demo.  Pete was a blast onstage, and even more fun down in the Green Room, where he and Alison Sweeney battled it out on Grand Slam Tennis for a good hour before the show started. Once Pistol Pete got the hang of the Wii Motion Plus controls, that serve and volley game kicked in for him just like the old days...

When you add in our announcements of TeamBuilder in NCAA Football (which has now spawned more than 55,000 created teams since last Monday) and Online Franchise in Madden, I think you got a good sense why I'm so excited about this year's new games and think fans will share my optimism when they get their hands on our new titles over the coming months.  And of course we're off to a great start with the recent launch of EA SPORTS Active and this week's Grand Slam Tennis and Tiger Woods PGA TOUR launches. 2009 is shaping up to be a great year for EA SPORTS, driven in no small part by the feedback we receive from you our core customers.

Finally, I was glad to be a part of the "new and improved E3", a show that felt like it had the excitement of years past and provided a perfect platform for showcasing the great work of this industry without the unmanageable crowds and booths that had begun to overrun the show and left us with the underwhelming E3s of the past two years.  Both Sony and Microsoft shared exciting news about their respective motion control technologies, something that we at EA SPORTS believe can be a major driving force towards mass market adoption.

Cheers,

Peter

Getting Tiger Woods 10 and playing the first the game was an experience.  Fry's had an advertisement stating that Tiger 10 would be in stock by 8AM.  I was there after 10AM and it was hadn't arrived yet.  Went across the street to Best Buy who had dummy boxes that said to take empty box to cashier.  I took it to Customer Service and the lone cashier working and neither knew where this title was.  They eventually found it but this was a 20 minute stop that should have taken 5 minutes at the most.

The adventure didn't stop there after my 360 needed to play Tiger Woods 10.  The problem was that it never booted up after the update process had ended.  Looked at the disc and it was incredibly scratched up.  So I get to make a trip back to Best Buy to get a new game which I was assured would work.  I did work.

I hope that EA Sports work out some of the obvious kinks in releasing Tiger 10 before NCAA 10 launches.  It is highly unusual for Fry's to not have a game when promised so this should be a one-time screwup.  Yes, the game works now.  What an experience just to play a golf game.

Hey Peter, is there any chance that players holding the football with two hands while weaving through would be tacklers will be an animation in Madden 10... Here are a few photos that display how actual NFL players carry the football with both hands on both punt and interception returns.  In my humble estimation, It would be a great animation to see a player like Charles Woodson carry the football with two hands prior to palmng the ball with one hand on an interception return.  Also it would be great as well as to have unbuckled chin straps on one side of certain players helmets helmets.  Please relay this message to Ian, Phil, Raczilla and any other of the Madden development team who could hopefully make these addition to Madden 10

prior to its August release.

Peter, This is off topic but it should go to the guy at the top.  I need baseball man.  I'm on the NHL 10 site, drooling over the new game, and on the menu I start browsing, you got everything.  No baseball.  I don't know when the exclusivity ends with MLB but you have got to get in on that.  It is a perfect market for the EA Sports Live stuff with ESPN, balls and strikes, swing analysis, oohh, it gives me goosebumbs thinking about the Baseball Tonight crew using that stuff.  Thanks for listening.

Two baseball questions in such a short period of time?  Peter has addressed this issue in recent months and the reason for no baseball game is because EA Sports doesn't hold the MLB license right now.  Notice that I didn't say this was a good reason.  I fail to see why EA Sports couldn't make a college baseball game as they have done in years past or a pro game with fictional cities and players.  I would like to see a stats heavy baseball game similar to Out of the Park Baseball.  Ooops, I mentioned a competitor.  Are they really considered a competitor since EA Sports isn't competing in that genre.

hornswin75, thanks for the feedback. Keep in mind that NCAA Football 10 does not use actual rosters. TeamBuilder is a new feature in NCAA Football 10 that gives you the opportunity to build and control your team from the ground up. If you have any others questions, feel free to PM me directly on the forums or beta.easports.com.
