Fight Night Unveiled This Weekend

Last weekend was a big one for boxing fans in Las Vegas, with Manny Pacquiao scoring an eight-round TKO of Oscar De La Hoya.  As much as I would have been interested to have seen the fight, I didn't.  But that's something promoter Bob Arum would like to change.  In a story in last week's LA Times , Arum says the future of boxing is getting it back on network television and away from only being able to watch the sport on cable and pay per view. I am old enough to remember when a championship fight at any weight was a really big deal in the world of sports. I clearly remember listening to BBC radio as a kid to the Cassius Clay fights, and then of course when he became Muhammad Ali and fought those monumental battles against Frazier and Foreman. Those fights were network TV primetime specials, and the sport got huge positive coverage as a result. Sadly now we need to cough up $55 or so to see these fighters in action, something so few people are willing or able to do in these difficult times.

While I hope one day boxing does make a return to network TV, in the meantime the best place for fighting fans to get their fix is our Fight Night franchise.  I hope you'll all be watching the Spike VGAs  live this Sunday, where I'll be joined by a special guest on stage to show the world premiere of Fight Night Round 4.  Fight Night Round 3 remains one of the most critically and commercially successful games of this hardware generation, and I'll never forget when I saw the first concept video of the game back more than two years ago.  On Sunday, you're going to see something never before seen in a videogame.  And next summer, I'm confident you'll see a game that will build on the rich heritage of this great franchise.

A few weeks ago we promised you more direct interaction with our development teams, particularly when it comes to answering your specific product-focused questions (that would be you Jack, dolly lama, Bee- $, etc.).  Now on EA Sports World, we've got many of our dev team pages up and running, with multiple producers from each game now regularly interacting with fans and answering your questions, posting blogs looking for your feedback on our games, and more.

Here are the first few that you can now view on EA SPORTS World:

Madden dev team page

NCAA Football dev team page

FIFA dev team page

NBA Live Dev team page

Not only can fans now regularly communicate with our dev teams at the above pages, we also have a full customer support team that can also answer customer service-related issues: http://www.support.ea.com.  So as I've said before, we want to get this right and we've got a number of good options now in place for you.

We want the feedback.  We listen to the feedback.  And our teams are in position to listen and react to much of you have to say.  You be the judge.  Please let me know what you think.  And are there other dev teams that do this really well, either within EA or around the industry, that you'd like to see us learn from?

On a related note, "Jack" let me try to bury the socks/towels issue once and for all. I get it,  and understand what you feel the game needs to be more authentic. The dev teams have seen the posts, and will discuss this issue at the aforementioned blog soon .  Peace?

"Simon": No announcements to make on cricket and rugby right now, but rest assured we are keeping a very close eye on developments in both sports, particularly on the Twenty20 format in cricket, that really seems to have invigorated the sport in the past year. Stay tuned.

So don't forget to tune in to the VGA's on 12/14 (9pm ET on Spike) when I will be premiering the first look at Fight Night Round 4 (and I will have a special guest there to help me out...)

Also, be sure to visit the official Fight Night Round 4 website for all of the latest news and videos of the game.

Hey EA SPORTS fans,

My name is Will Kinsler (aka raczilla on EA SPORTS World) and I'm the community manager for all of the EA SPORTS titles developed at our Tiburon studio.  I just wanted to drop in and introduce myself.  You can find my EA SPORTS World profile in the Madden and NCAA dev team sections Peter linked above.  I'm not a dev team member, but I do work closely with our dev teams on improving our communication with fans, which is why we're excited about our new dev team group pages on the site.

I read through the comments here on this blog on a regular basis and I know it's important to all of you to be able to interact with our teams and have an impact on our games.  I'll be around this blog and our dev team pages often, so feel free to ask for help if you're not sure about something.

Thanks!

Great fight on the weekend.  Manny's my pick for Fight Night Round 4 cover!

Just a quick intro...I'm Alain Quinto one of your Community Managers working out of EA Canada.  We're just getting the ball rolling with the Staff Groups and are pretty pumped to open this window of communication.  Bear in mind that our teams are hard at work with their current plans to make the next round of titles, though they'll be doing their best to respond.

I'll be around as well to answer or hunt answers down so feel free to ping me directly through those pages too.  Looking forward to hearing from you all and can't wait for this Sunday's VGA's!

I'm reminded of the saying about a ten thousand mile journey beginning with a single step.  This is a good first step.  Unfortunately, EA has burned me so many times that I won't be a believer until you've travled all ten thousand miles.  Despite my feelings for your company, I find myself hoping you'll get there.

Mr.  Moore,

Anyword on NHL 09 for the PS2 and PC?

The users are disappointed with how different they are from the PS3 and 360 versions and how we were never warned about what those differences would be.

The BAP modes  are completely different not to mention the PS2 version isn't even online.

Just wondering?

Hi Peter

I realise my post has nothing to do with this thread however, I really wanted you to be able to see this.

You may have come across the name PGAX before, but just in case you haven't, we are fans of the PC based TW series. During december, our website will be holding an online charity event which will bring the online golf gamining community together for a common cause. We are going to run this as an annual event and it will cater for ALL skill levels on the PC version of Tigerwoods PGA Tour 08. Next year will be a US based children's charity.

This year, we are raising funds for The County Air Ambulance in the UK as one of our members has a daughter who was very tragically involved in a road traffic incident and her young life was saved by their rapid response.

You can read all about McAyla and her fight for survival and her continuous battle here:

http://www.mcayla.com

We have setup a charity webpage at Justgiving.com here:

www.justgiving.com/pgax-mcayla

We are inviting all PC gamers owning a valid copy of EASPORTS Tigerwoods PGA Tour 08, to join us on this event. Our Course design team are going to be releasing a very special real course replica just for the event and it will only be available to those who play and donate.

People can find more information by visiting us here: http://www.pgax.net

Peter, we would very much welcome a donation from EASPORTS to this well deserving cause, so we can only ask you to give it some consideration please.

I realise you took a bit of a drubbing when it came to the announcement that there would be no PC version of the game for 09, by a few dissappointed fans, but please let that not dissuade you and your team. The majority of us do actually understand the reasons and continue to be strong supporters of the title as it stands.

I sincerely hope you have not minded me posting this information and look forward to seeing as many gamers and donations as possible...Let's get this party started!

Kindest regards

Zee

PGAX

PGAX Team Design, create replica courses of the real event for use within the PC game and for the PGAX KIDS CHRISTMAS CLASSIC, we are releasing a special course for our online event which takes place between 16th and 24th December 08.

As a father the fact that a NON GOVERMENT FUNDED operation like the air ambulance saved my daughters life, I can only hope people will donate what they can at PGAX and enjoy a great social game of online golf.

Your support is much appriciated.

How's it going Mr. Moore I'm really looking forward to Fight Night Round 4. I'm just hoping this sport I love is represented right and has a deep career mode. I have boxed over 12 years of life and I'm finally excited about what I see in a boxing videogame. I hope you had a chance to see my wishlist with suggestions and ideas.  I'm really hoping you guys have a deep roster too; I have been getting professional boxers coming to my Myspace page asking to be in your game for free...keyword free!... It's funny because many of these guys think I work for you guys because I'm so passionate about boxing and the Fight Night series. Let me explain something to "Jack" or whatever the he!! the name of the day is.  Don't expect anything before Madden 2010 or NCAA 2010 regarding these issues.  These games have not been released yet.  It is very unlikely that EA Sports is going to put upgrades like you are wanting into roster patch.

What more do you want?  Peter Moore addressed you personally.  Perhaps if you used a name for more than 5 seconds he might know who to address.  Checkmarking the remember me button would help if you forget the last name that you used.

The upgrades you are asking for are under consideration for the next game.  This is the most that you should expect from them.  There is no guarantee that your ideas will be used for the next game.  They are under consideration and that is all.  Your best bet is to plead your case with the production teams who work on the games.  Peter Moore probably listens to ideas that his production teams comes up with and probably says "yes"  99% of the time.

Madden 07 was definitely a letdown but this was also when the products were just migrating to the new platform.  All games were stripped down at that point.  I get the point about 60 dollar games.  Is EA Sports overcharing us?  Yes.  Could EA Sports sell higher volumes of games by marking their games down by 10,20 dollars?  Would they still make money?  I think that the answer is yes.

I won't comment on the fighting game because I think that there is a game for the Wii that will sell in mass and EA Sports won't be making that game.

The next generation of football games need to be really good.  They need to blow us away with their graphics and features.  I say that the next round of EA Sports games period need to blow us all away or else EA Sports might be heading for some trouble.  How about 10 dollar off coupons for gamers who print the coupons off the EA Sports website?  Manufacturers coupons exist all the time in grocery stores so why can't EA Sports give back to the gamers who are willing to search a little.  NCAA 09 for the 360 is listed at 49.99 at Best buy.  I guess that EA Sports is taking a 10 dollar hit there.

I agree with "Jack" on some points but I hope that most of us aren't anything like him/her.  Have realistic expectations with your idea.  We all have had unkind things to say about Peter Moore but remember that he did achknowledge you in his last blog entry.

Peter Moore - Time to get back to work and start cracking that whip.  Make the next generation of football games the very best that we have ever seen.  Make us grateful that we are only spending 60 dollars for such beauty.  Give us 60 dollars worth.

That is all.

Hey, my name is Dan Rasmusson and have the username RasmussonDan. How could I lose a game with 0-3 when the match was done and I had 8-1 in an official game. This is really frustrating. Contact me on Man_tiger12@hotmail.com

Here are the match statistics:

Team Used: Man U Team faced: Barcelona

Shots for: 18          Shots against:  4

Time of possession: 55%

Tackling: 79%      Opponent's tackling: 28%

Passing: 77%      Opponent's passing: 71%

Fouls: 0                Opponent's fouls: 2

Offsides: 5         Opponent's offsides: 1

Corners: 4          Opponent's corners: 1

The ref blew the whistle and I had 8-1. Why did I lose the game?

FIFA09 really need to work on their bugs.

Diharduncfan,

That's a good point about the Tiger Woods dev team page.  Because these are groups where only dev team members can join, only dev team posters will be able to post blogs.  Fans will still be able to comment of course.

We're working with the Tiger team to add new posters and add some blogs in the near future.  If you check the page early next week, you can be sure to expect some content.

I"m really pumped about fight night round 4 just wish the release wasn't  so far off. Since we have to wait so long to actually play the game I hope that at least EA will start to post more info on the game. I'm hoping for a larger number of boxers and styles. What changes the the physics based engine will make to the game play and will there still be parry's and hay maker's. Anyway looking forward to 12/14 and hopefully after the premier info on the game will start to flow.

Read all of the posts I have left on this blog and you will find more suggestions on how to improve EA Sports products than you care to read.

The point that I was making to "Jack" was not to expect anything instantly.  The development teams are where "Jack" needs to take his issues with Madden.  Peter Moore doesn't program the games the last time I checked.  He is capable of handing ideas off to development teams.  You can go straight to the source but you choose to detour through here.  Just don't complain when it takes longer.

The original post from "Jack" is no longer displayed which is why we need guidelines for what we can post on here.  Read my previous posts on this blog and you will find that I have criticized Peter Moore in 95% of my posts.  This is my second post on this topic so you are criticizing me based on 1% of my posts to this blog.  Get the full picture before spouting off.

I have never stated that "Jack" doesn't have valid issues.  I personally believe that there are more important issues to address.  If the issues that "Jack" have come with are the only things that get fixed with Madden/NCAA 2010, then both of these games are going to be really bad games.  Mark it down.  They will not sell very good if these are the only things corrected.

I will continue to critique bloggers who make stupid posts.  A stupid post involves someone expecting something to be fixed instantly.  The issues raised by "Jack" have been noticed by the head of EA Sports and the team making Madden and yet we are still criticizing Peter Moore and Company for not correcting the issues immediately?  If the production team immediately addressed these issues then they would not be working to make Madden 2010 better.  I would prefer a better game at launch than a issue fixed right now.  I wish that "Jack's" post was visible so everyone could see what I was referrig to.

I also echoed the sentiments of "Jack" with regards to EA Sports future products.  The next season of games needs to blow us all away.  Make them games that nobody can stopping talking about for the right reasons.

You want suggestions for the next football games?  Here goes.  My suggestions will include NCAA 2010 and Head Coach since these were the only two football games that I purchased last year.

Career Mode for NCAA 2010.  Give me the ability to hire/fire my own coordinators.  Let me start as a coordinator at a school.

Make this really cool and let me be responsible for recruiting my own players.  Defensive coordinators would be responsible for recruiting defensive players.  If I fail to recruit all of my needed positions then let this affect my performance rating.

Let me scout games similar to the way that high schools are played in NCAA 2009 Campus Legend.  Give me the ability to identify other players that I might see while going to scout a particular player.  If I see a really good Quarterback prospect that nobody else has noticed then I can scout him and pass the information on to the head coach.  Who says that coaches go to scout only one player?

Campus Legend - Give me the ability to improve my player in meaningful drills.  Don't make it mandatory.  See the PS2 game for drills that are fun to execute.

Bring back the majors.  Let me major in Division 1 teams once again.  The camera angle has also been particularly bad in Campus Legend.  More diverse playbooks would be appreciated.

When I am being recruited as a prospect, let me choose what type of school that I go to.  If I am an option quarterback then let me go to schools that run the option a lot.  Ever notice that Texas Tech recruits a certain type of QB every year?  Scrambling QB's don't fit the system there.  Have this reflected in the game.

Recruting - Expand the QuickCall option.  Very useful this year but very limited in how it has been used.  Give me the option to offer a scholarship and schedule a prospect via the QuickCall function.  If users are given the option to hire their own coordinators then give the Head coach the option of assigning coordinators areas to recruit.  This could include geographic areas or areas of the team.

Head Coach issues - The 2009 game was vastly improved over the previous editions.  The practice options just plain stunk.  No team in the NFL practices one play for a day.  Give realistic expectations on how to improve the team.  Bring back meaningful drills.  If you want to improve your running game, then let your coaches work one on one with the halfbacks to improve their running game.

These are just a sampling of the issues that I posted on this blog since mid-June or earlier.

We are all sick of "Jack".  We don't deny that the issues need to be addressed.  We have seen numerous posts complaining about the same things for multiple editions of this blog.  Peter Moore has personally addressed "Jack" and the issue.  Read the blog entitled "How to compete".  How many people complained about "Jack" there?  Am I really in the minority to criticize "Jack"?  If "Jack" can come up with some new issues then maybe he will not be criticized for it.  I live in a country where the freedom to express myself how I want is protected and I choose to express my displeasure with "Jack" having unrealistic expectations and posting the same things over and over again.  You may not agree with me but I still have the right to express those views.

Again, the need for guidelines on this site have become apparent.  Why was the post by "Jack" deleted?  Is cricism of Peter Moore no longer allowed?  My doubters and critics can easily view my old posts and you will find very little good to say about Peter Moore.  If the situation is as dire as everyone here states, then it is only a matter of time before Moore's decisions come back to haunt him.  That is not for me to decide nor do I care to decide it.  I am here to improve the games so that I can play really good games in the future.  There will never be a perfect game made but we as gamers continue to want a perfect game.  That is what keeps me purchasing the games year in and year out.  They are not perfect and Madden 2010 didn't wow me enough to warrant a purchase.  This should say to EA Sports that there is work to do on the games.  My guess is that I was not the only one in America not to purchase Madden.

This was one my longer-winded posts but I had issues to address.

That is all.

EF,

Thanks for the thoughts.  You are dead on in your suggestion that Jack's concerns are better directed to our Madden dev team and not here on Peter's blog.  We've set up some great destinations where Jack and anyone else who is interested can speak directly with the teams that work on the games.  Peter's post calls out those destinations and just as Peter did, I'd encourage everyone who wants direct interaction on the specifics of an EA SPORTS game to visit those pages.

EF, you make some valid points with regards to rules or a process by which we're looking at the comments.  We're working to address that in coming weeks and I'm confident that will resolve some of the issue's you're having here on Peter's blog.

Jack's initial post was not  removed because it was critical of Peter or of EA SPORTS.  Constructive criticism has been and always will be welcome.  His post was removed because it was entirely off topic and offered nothing constructive.  We're looking to have some real dialogue here and personal insults act as nothing more than a barrier to true interaction with fans.

As we work improving the blog over the coming weeks, I hope you'll help us keep the conversation going in the right direction.  Rather than debating the merit of Jack's post, I ask that you allow us to point him (and anyone else) to the right places to have his concerns addressed.  We'll do our part to make sure we improve the blog and clear up any questions about what is and isn't ok.

Thanks EF.  I look forward to more of your thoughtful posts here on the blog.

The developers blog is where I have been going with my ideas.  I posted suggestions on the last post due to the fact that I was called out for not making suggestions.  I think that healthy criticism of EA Sports needs to continue.  This is how the games get better but new visitors to the blog need to know the proper places to take their ideas.  I love how Peter is supposed to magically fix all of the problems with the games.

I am glad to see the Peter Moore blog experiencing growing pains.

I can't believe I'm going to defend Mr. Moore, BUT... Mr. Moore did "magically" make it possible for gamers to interact with the development teams.  I can't be sure of course, but I'd wager a fair amount that this idea came from the head of the division getting hit square in the face by the ranting of EA's angry "fans".

Bottom line, Mr. Moore was hired to make EA sports better.  If he can't fix the problems with their games, who can?

It's bull that raczilla and others can choose to remove posts from this blog b/c of negative comments directed towards Mr. Moore.  I had a chance to read the post EF alluded to and it was just as relevant to the topic as any other post on this blog.  If Mr. Moore's blog is truly an open forum then why was the post regarding Mr. Moore and the economic shortcomings that EA is currently experiencing under his leadership removed.  The post contained no vulgarity and stated truths about Ea sports that can be found on MSNBC and other financial news outlets.

I also think that "Jack" made some relevant points.  It seems that while other bloggers are concerned with introducing more in depth campus legend modes etc.. Jack just wants the player models to be upgraded in order to provide a "Moore" accurate portrayal of the modern day NFL player.  Things like towels, different cleat brands, unbuckled chin straps, untucked jerseys, palming the ball/carrying the ball with two hands on interception returns etc..are all elements that should be implemented in both Madden/NCAA by now.  Lets face it, if NFL Fever Player models had towels on them in 2003 then why does Madden not offer towel options for its player models in 2009.  It might not be a major concern to others but it is important to Jack.  In all honesty it should not be hard for talented programmers like Ian Cummings and others to make these minor adjustments to Madden. Such failures to incorporate the little details that Jack talks of in Madden/NCAA that often make me wonder whether or not the Ea producers are truly making every attempt to improve their games year in and year out.

Another problem I have is with the new development blogs that are mentioned in Pete's latest post.  I've gone on the site to register and apparently every username one could imagine has been taken.  It's rather frustrating and just shows how Ea once again fails to take the little details (similar to the ones Jack often mentions) into account.  All in all, Ea (Peter, Ian, raczilla...) better get there acts together b/c apparently Ea is heading in the wrong direction and they need to produce games in 2010 that blow the Ea fan base away to reclaim the glory the company experienced prior to Peter's reign as CEO...

We all have different concerns for the games.  The gameplay and game modes are big ones for me.  The visuals have been great for a while.  This doesn't mean that they can't get any better but they were not the primary reason that I didn't buy Madden 2009.  Visually, I wish that the stadiums looked more realistic and that the crowd didn't look like lifeless cardboard cutouts.  Visuals can sell the game in stores to people who haven't played the game in years.  The visuals that the games currently have are capable of wowing these people.  The visuals could be upgraded and would be a welcome addition to the series.  Again, visual upgrades alone will not be enough to make or break Madden/NCAA sales records.

The big points for me will be gameplays that affects replay value.  What happens after I win the Super Bowl/National Championship with my team that I have built up?  Gameplay is what sells games.  I have played a lot of games that have great visuals but the controls aren't very good or the difficulty level is too hard/easy.  Expanding the franchise mode would make me consider the game more than I am right now.  I can get most of the features that I want on the PS2 version but the visuals are very dated on that platform.

Jack's post was not out of line in any way although I think that it is ridculous to expect EA Sports to drop everything and immediately upgrade those aspects of the game.  Keep it civil here.

1. There are NO posts to this blog that are readily available once posted. They are viewed by EA Staff before they are made viewable to the public, so your comments are WAY off base.

2. Raczilla is the EA Sports Community Manager, therefore he gets to view posts before they are made viewable to the general public. If he says that someone's post was full of foul language, then that is the case. Who are you to argue?

At the end of the day, EA and Peter take a great deal of criticism in these blogs, most warranted, some not warranted, especially when it gets personal. You aren't going to get anywhere with EA arguing over someone else's post, nor will you get anywhere by posting flames and personal attacks here. The intent of these blogs is to give users a chance to tell Peter and EA Sports what they think of the games, not take potshots and flame them. I can assure you that comments will likely overlooked if users can't make rational and objective posts, without leaving the personal nonsense for somewhere else.

Hope that helps....

I have only posted one blog on the NCAA site.  Nothing really really negative to report but nothing really out of this world to report either.  I am just glad that there is a place to make my ideas heard for NCAA.  I have a passing interest in Madden but no real need to post ideas since I didn't purchase Madden 09.  Will there be a Head Coach developer site?  I am hoping that Madden will incorporate a lot of the ideas introduced in Head Coach 09.

Fair enough sharky.  I certainly respect that you are here to post your thoughts and I don't want you or anyone else to feel you are being handcuffed in any way.  You obviously care a great deal about what you're saying, otherwise you wouldn't be here.  I did read your post and perhaps should have taken more time and care in replying to it.

I think we can both agree that we want this to be a destination where you can freely share your thoughts with Peter.  We'll continue to work towards that and I hope you continue to visit and share your thoughts.

With regards to the problem posting in the dev team area, can you elaborate a little more specifically on the issue you're having registering at the site?  EA SPORTS World has quite a few members so there are for sure a lot of user names already taken.  Let me know what I can do to help.

Tim,

Thanks for the support.  The posts on this blog are actually not reviewed and approved prior to going live on the site.  There is currently a caching issue that's preventing posts from going live immediately after being posted.  That's something we're looking to address along with some of the other enhancements to the blog.  We hope to have this resolved soon.

Tread lightly here raczilla.  Suggesting that EAcomGolfTim is incorrect will be considered a personal attack on him.

Lets keep the personal nonsense out of the discussion....I know raczilla well and there was no personal attack of any kind....

Hey Peter

Just wanted to let you know we have so far raised US$740 via the PGAX Kids Christmas Charity Event we are running this week, with more donations set to come in. If you read my earlier post in this thread, you will see I have asked if EASPORTS would also like to make a donation as we are using your game; TW08 for PC.

Come on guys, how about it? All donations are going to The County Air Ambulance in the UK this year, next year our charity event will be collecting for a US based Children's charity.

Anyone else interested in joining us online this week and having some golf fun on your PC, please visit; http://www.pgax.net

Cheers

Zee

In a PM, I have been threatened by someone stating "what comes around, go around..." Also, this person hinted that he knows people at XBox and Microsoft and that he will "report me" Hinting at anything from a physical to trying to possibly have my Live (?) canceled???  He will claim different but, the statement has been made just the same. Is there a way to contact, as a customer, someone who could help with this issue?

Thanks

Hey guys, I appreciate you keeping us informed. It was not always such and I Thank you for finally communicating with us.

I hope the PC version is truly to become a reality for 2010.  The 08 game online has so many cheaters in it. I enjoy playing, we have a good group of people in our club and converse using TeamSpeak.  Makes for a great time, just would like to weed out those who continually cheat.

It would be nice if there was a place to ban those that just don't play as it should.
