USA Today On The History of Madden

On the road this week for business, I was excited to pick up my copy of USA Today this morning and see a terrific story on the history of Madden.

As I’m quoted as saying in the story: “We don't so much as launch Madden any more, we celebrate its arrival”, and it’s quite a celebration at Tiburon this week.  Our Madden development team has put together a truly breakthrough game this year to celebrate the 20th anniversary of this great franchise – something we’re extremely proud of.  And it's nice to see the critics agree.  Madden was named best sports game of E3 in the official “Game Critics Best of Show Awards” that were announced yesterday.  Congrats also to EA’s other nominees for this category, including: NBA LIVE, Skate It and Tiger Woods PGA TOUR.

And so much for what I said in yesterday’s post about welcoming Brett back to Green Bay.  As we all continue to watch this saga unfold, reports have Brett heading to Tampa Bay next year.  Who knows.  But since I’ve had many people asking, I just want to set the record straight – Madden NFL 09 will hit stores next Tuesday with Brett wearing his Packers green and gold, as we celebrate his legacy as one of the great QBs to ever play the game and someone’s who’s been with us from the early days of John Madden Football.  But what’s most important is what’s in the game – and by the start of the season, we’ll have a roster patch that will ensure that, in the game, Brett is on whatever team he’s playing for this season.

Who could have imagined the offseason would be this fun?

We’re under a week to go until Madden launch.  Don’t forget to look for me next week at Maddenpalooza.

What will happen if Brett isn't playing?  Will he be a free agent?

Brett is a great quarterback who is destined for the Hall of Fame but interested teams have to wonder what will happen afer the season.  He has been going through this retire/no retire flip/flop for several years now and I think the Packers are fed up with it.  This is all over the talk shows so it has definitely been a more exciting offseason than normal.  6 days to Madden/Head Coach or less if you can find it early.  I could have bought NCAA 09 early since my local Hastings had release date listed as 6/15/08 but I didn't.  My luck would be that a cop would be in the store and I would get nervous or caught.  I will probably wait for reviews on Madden.

FoxSports reports Brett Farve has been traded to the NY Jets for a draft pick, I still dont think the Jets with Farve can beat the Pats for the division, they maybe a wild card contender but I think the Jags and Browns will probably win the wild cards.

Favre a Jet???  The Jets have some talent and Favre will make a difference.  Not just because he is a great player but because he plays with passion and has that "X" factor that will help in the locker room.

I understand the Packers' side but I have no idea why they wouldn't have welcomed him back with open arms.  He was their best option (no knock against Rodgers) at QB.  I believe that the Packers feel he can still play or they would have given him his outright release nor would they have feared him signing on with a division rival.

I am so looking forward to Madden (first time I have been this hyped since Madden 06 was announced)  Hopefully I won't be disappointed like I was when 06 was released.  The hype surrounding this year's Madden feels so much differently than the past few years.

Now, if we can only get EA to get classic teams (i.e Madden 93).

This is off topic to Peter -- As a HUGE hockey fan I would like to make a recommendation -- CLASSIC TEAMS and JERSEYS next year please....I know that getting the Hartford Whalers' jerseys in the game may be challenging but I know EA can make it happen.

Also, classic teams would be awesome instead of the international teams (or include both)

Thanks and keep on keeping on....

J-E-T-S......JETS, JETS, JETS BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Finally!  The Jets get a decent QB and I get to have a decent QB in Madden.  I can't wait for my copy of 09 to hit next week.  It will be great to be wielding good ole #4 in the quest to bring the lombardi trophy back to Gang Green.

I am sure Laverneous Coles is salavating at the notion of all the catches he will be making this year as is Jericho Cotchery.  With Favre we can get rid of the Jets usual dink and dunk offense and really stretch the field this year.

My Prediction:  Jets will make the playoffs at 10-6 as a Wild Card.  I still gotta give the EAST to the PATS though it pains me to admit.
