Welcome to Peter Moore's Official Blog

In this blog you'll see what Peter thinks about sports, sports video games, and the industry in general. We hope this gives you an inside look at EA SPORTS, so please enjoy!

Peter Moore About Peter

Countdown to Madden

A couple of years ago, many of you might remember a Madden NFL “target”  video that we produced, showing the proposed graphical fidelity the development team was aiming for with the new generation of hardware. Admittedly, we were not quite able to reach the lofty goals we had set for ourselves with that original video – until now. What you will see below is all game-play footage, and proving that I finally have some clout around here, is exclusive to my blog! (until marketing figures out the puny numbers that frequent this site and decide to get some real coverage…).

The Madden demo is up on both PS3 and Xbox 360 – it’s really different, and I’d be interested in your feedback (yes, even you EF).

Manny moving to LaLaLand leaves me feeling sad and Big Papi is now exposed in the line-up.  It’s time to cowboy up again, Sox.  Hard to argue with Jason Bay’s start.  What a classy welcome over the weekend at Fenway.  Now the Sox hit the road and we see what they’re made of.

Robbie Keane to partner with Torres feels like the missing piece in the puzzle for Liverpool. This could be the year the drought ends…

See you all at Maddenpalooza on Aug 11? If you are going, add it to your post and we’ll figure out if we can meet there.

Hi Peter...

I have to say that the Madden Demo was probably the first time that a demo has discouraged me from buying this game. I have had the CE version on preorder for sometime, and had high hopes for the game and Head Coach.

Reading in the OpSports forum about a lack of CPU Sliders, plus the whole "TRON" training mentality was very, very bad. I didn't like it at all. I understand what Tiburon is trying to do here, but it just doesn't work.

Plus, as a former New Englander, you should know that any of us in Patriots country -- the last thing we'd want to do is play as the Giants in the Super Bowl. Who thought that was a great idea?

So anyway, just with the demo, I'm really bummed about Madden. Glad to hear that Head Coach is getting some positive play.

PS -- It would be great if you could elaborate on the "Patch Certification" process that apparently takes 2-3 years. Why can't the NCAA patch be up ASAP? Why is the time between EA sends it to Microsoft/Sony and the time we can download it is so long?

Quite frankly, I have this coupon for $40 trade in value for NCAA if I trade it for Madden...right now as the game is, I think I'm going to take advantage of that offer. Convince me otherwise, because I want to like the game....

Peter,  I haven't bought Madden in a few years, after renting the last couple year's editions i decided it wasn't worth it.  I tried the Demo for 09 on Xbox Live however and i liked it alot.  I think this will finally be the year i get back into Madden mania.  I thought the TRONesque training was kinda cool and i like how the game will adapt to me based on my skill.  Graphically the demo looked beautiful.  Can't wait to give it a go.

Mr.  Moore,

I can't provide feedback on the demo since I don't hook my consoles up to the internet.  I have actually decided against purchasing Madden this year.  Show me why Madden is worth my money.  Provide a stand-alone demo that I can download to a flash drive and we will talk then.  Head Coach seems more up my alley.  Spore is also calling and looks 20 times better than Madden at the moment.

I like the college game more than I do the pros.  NCAA Head Coach sounds like a good idea with a different twist.  Bring back a College Baseball game.  This was done on PS2 consoles.  College basketball is on the horizon so I would like to hear what EA Sports is doing this year.

The College Hoops franchise has been 100 times better than March Madness in all areas so improvement is needed.  I believe that EA Sports now owns this franchise (literally).

Is there a way for console gamers to download patches from easports.com to flash drives and install patches/demos?  I have one modem right now and it goes to the laptop.

Thank you for the mention.  Listen to me and I will help you make better games.  I have been gaming since the Pong era so I have seen a lot of concepts fail and succeed.  I have bought your NCAA series since it was introduced so you can say that I am a long-time EA customer.  I may come across as critcal but this makes a better game.  The PS2 versions of your football games are better than your next-generation games (PS3/360).  Bring back the fun in the games.  The Madden cards did this.  Pennants were in the NCAA series.  Do it in the Tiger series.  Hit a ball in the fairway and receive a card which unlocks a new type of ball.  I would like to see something done that is similar to Hot Shots Golf.  This game sells well so maybe there some lessons that can be learnerd there.  I read a preview for Facebreaker and it is now on my radar.  They compared this to the Punchout series which is a very nice comparison.  If it can live up to that hype is the key to success.

I am very deliberate in the way that I do things.  If I say that I am going to do something, I do it.  I respond to questions directly and I expect that others do the same as well.  Come to Texas A&M University for a weekend and we will show what a true college athmosphere is all about.  Don't come just for the game.  Hang out in the city.  Go to march-in.  You will see why Aggies are passionate about their football.  Contact our Athletic Director and I am sure that he can hook you up. A&M/OU will show you a big-time College Game.  I was not pleased with the way that A&M was portrayed in NCAA 09 and I hope that you correct the NCAA team on this so that it can be corrected in the future.

I take back all of the bad things that I have posted since you responded to me personally.  This a great first step so tell me what you think of the ideas listed here.  Read my previous posts/rants and you will find more ideas for improviing your games.  Sorry for the long post but I will never compromise my passion for gaming as you can tell from my previous posts.

Mr. Moore,

I apologize that this has nothing to do with Madden.  But I like the game and will most likely end up buying before I leave for college, but please read what I typed up today.  It might not make sense, but its about a Lacrosse video game.  If you have any information on such a game I would love to hear it.  Thank you very much for your time!  This is an email I wrote to PR but it never went through.

If this email is even being read and has not been deleted than I appreciate your time.  My name is Benjamin Walker and I've been looking for the past 2 hours or so to find someone to contact.  I was trying to contact Steve Seabolt or Peter Moore.  So, if you could please give me their information or forward this to either or both of them, it would be greatly appreciated.  I would like to say that a LACROSSE game from EA is long over due.  With the popularity of the sport growing at such a rapid rate; I, as well as many, may others, believe it's time to make an NCAA Lacrosse game.   I know that I’m just an 18 year old Chemical Engineering student, who loves the game of lacrosse, but there are thousands of people begging for this game and if it comes out, it can grow more than you will ever imagine.  I don’t know much about computer programming and the other things that it takes to create a game, but I know it takes a lot of time and dedication to complete.  I just want to say that an NCAA Lacrosse game would be huge.  But you would have to take the time to make it good, not like BLAST Lacrosse was.  The controls would mirror hockey and football.  For the playstation line, R1 and L1 would be a split dodge left and right; like a juke in the football games.  R2 and L2 could be a spin dodge left and right.  The catching would be like hockey, AI controlled, and passing could be done with O, turbo with X, A normal shot with Square, and a bounce shot with Triangle.  Ground balls would mirror a loose puck in hockey, it would be AI controlled.  There also could be a thing that you can dive by pressing L3, but only if you’re close to the crease, and if you land in the crease the goal doesn’t count.  And when not close to the crease, such as on a fast break, you can use it to call a player to stay back on defense or offense so as not to draw an offside penalty.  R3 could bring up and offensive play menu too.  On defense X could be turbo, O could be change players, Square could be poke/slap check, and Triangle would be somewhat of a “slash” type of check.  Again, dive with L3 and be able to check in the air.  R3 could bring up a Defensive play menu.  Also, you could do a campus legend type of deal with summer camp to find where someone will play.  You can have DI, DII, and DIII schools, and depending on how many points you get during summer camp, you get to go to a certain school.  There are not as many schools as there are for Football, so it would be quicker in terms of rosters and stats.  Stats could also be like all the other games.  Speed, acceleration, strength, awareness, agility, passing accuracy, shooting accuracy, shooting speed, defense, stick handling, stamina, injury, ect.  This is just brain storming.  But it can be done.  I would like to thank you for your time again.  Please consider making a lacrosse game very carefully.  It is the fastest growing sport in the world and could have so many extras, i.e. U-19 team, U.S.A. team, Canada team, ECT.  Please reconsider.  I’m going to be a freshman at Widener University, a DIII school; and I will be playing lacrosse.  Please, please think hard about making a lacrosse game.  It is far overdue and the profits would be enormous.  Thank you for your time again.

Sincerely,

Benjamin Walker

Hey what's up Mr. Moore?

I downloaded and played the Madden 09 demo last night for my 360, and loved it.  I loved the "Tron" element.  It was very intuitive and seemed right on.  I know someone commented earlier on not liking it, but I loved it.  The graphics also look downright insane.  NFL Head Coach, I am interested in, but not sure what to expect.  I want to buy the CE but not sure how much play time Head Coach is actually going to get.  We'll see...you might get me to pony up an extra $30.

I wanted to comment on two commenters here.  First, Dan Clarke, you mentioned that the "Tron" aspect was really bad.  Well, from what I understand, this is a small part of the game so it can "adapt" to your play throughout the game.  You only have to go through this once if you want.  Also, the Demo was a "Great Moment" (I'm not sure if that is what it is offically called) so that is why you were playing with the Giants.  It was a realistic Demo, and I loved that part.  I hope to play more "Great Moments".

EF, you can get the demo at particpaing 7-11's, but you have to buy a sandwich meal.  However, it is best thing to do if you do not have internet access to your console.  Just a suggestion!

Mr. Moore, keep up the good work.  I wish I could make it to Maddenpalooza, but I have to travel for my work.  *** job, keeping me down!  I hope to meet with you another time.  Anyway, enjoy the millions that will come in the next few weeks.  Part of that will be mine.

Wow, did I really type this much?

EF said:

No 7-11's listed in the area.  We used to have a 7-11 but it is now a shoe store.  MIght be able to find one in Houston area but with a tropical storm and the bad traffic it is not worth the trip.  It wouldn't be worth the trip in good weather and no traffic.  Try and catch Houston with no traffic.  I am not driving outside Bryan-College Station to get a demo.  I wouldn't do that for the full game.  I will do it for the next NCAA game.

What is the holdup with putting patches/demos on EA Sports website?  Are the consoles the problem?  Do they not recognize flash drives being put into their USB ports?  I am not sure if I can use my 360 for connectivity since I didn't initially hook it up online when I bought it.  You have to sign up for Microsoft's service within the first 90 days.  I got a PS3 free but I haven't checked how online works with it.  I would like to see patches become available at EA website and I find it interesting that when I search all of the old PS3/360 NCAA titles that no patches show for either of these systems.  I also find it interesting that no patches are found for Tiger 08 for the PC.  Is EA in the patching business anymore?

Peter,

The demo was perhaps one of the worst examples of how to entice customers into buying a game that I have ever seen. The Madden IQ system doesn't even work. Go into the demo and try and get tackled in the running test. No matter what I do it takes a Heculean effort to get tackled. Defenders disappear, it doesn't matter what move you use, the running back shrugs off would be tacklers like the second coming of Jim Brown. Did EA want everyone to be rated All Madden in running?

Not allowing me to play defense or special teams doesn't let me experience two-thirds of what the game is all about. The graphics and animations are all very nice. I think in this day and age that should be a given. I had pre-ordered the CE edition of the game, but I think I will wait until there is more feedback from the community and I see what the alleged patch has to offer before I decide if I will purchase the game or not. It may be just Head Coach for me this year. I am seeing some very positive feedback on that.

Perhaps you should have the people at Tiburon meet with the folks who are developing the NHL series and get some pointers on how to innovate.

Sincerely,

Craig Miller

Mr. Moore,

I just wanted to first let you know that I am a huge fan of yours... you did great things for Microsoft, and it appears that you are doing great things for EA Sports.  I'll be honest and tell you that I haven't purchased a Madden game since Madden 2004 (i've played newer versions at friends houses to confirm my suspicions about how bad they all were).  None have seemed, or looked any different than the previous versions.  With Madden 2009, that seems to have changed.  I am definitely going to be buying the game (haven't decided on Limited or Regular edition yet, but either way I think I will be happy).

Anyways, it's a good thing you guys have a lot of trailers and a lot of good media attention because if I had just played the demo that you guys released, I would likely not have bought the game.  I'm not sure if it was a tweaked version of the "test" mode thing(i am hoping it was) , but I actually spent about 30 minutes testing it, and have found that it is PHYSICALLY IMPOSSIBLE to score less than "all-madden" in the running test.  The other ones are all very easy to get "all-madden" in also.  My biggest problem is during the test, icons pop up telling you what buttons to press and when to press them.  When you are playing the game, these icons are not there to help you.  If the intention of the test is really to find your skill level, then why are they making it so easy for us to get "all-madden" in all of the tests?

Also, the one "madden-moment" that was included in the demo was awesome, but it lasted me about 2 minutes.  Why cou;dn't you have included a couple playable madden moments for the demo, or at least give us the option to manually crank up the difficulity without restarting the demo and re-"testing"?

I really am posting to tell you that this year's Madden is truely the first one that feels, looks, and plays like a next gen football game, and my above two points were just my obversations/feelings about the demo.  I know those two things won't be issues with the actual game, so I am not too worried...

Again, thanks for finally delivering a next gen Madden game to the Xbox 360, and I really look forward to purchasing it.

I'm looking forward to the latest Madden release.  The demo only served to reinforce that little fact.  I totally enjoyed the "Madden Moments" feature that the demo drops you into.  The only weird thing I noticed was the RT play art didn't match what I choose from the playbook...I had to actually remember what I called and each player's assignment heh.

For the Patriot fans reading and or commenting on this blog - get over it, you lost the Super Bowl.  You've had an incredible run of success in the NFL lately, stop being so greedy.  You could always let the Giants lose and pretend you won - the demo does support that alternate reality.

For the folks here who don't connect their Xbox 360 or PS3 to their respective online services...what the heck is wrong with you?  I don't want to hear about that's your right as a paying customer or that's just the way I do things as a gamer.  Could there be a weaker argument in this day and age?  I mean come on now.  Someone like Peter Moore can't really say this to you, so I'll do my part and say it for him and EA.  There is a system in-place for seamlessly patching and updating these new games on the Xbox 360 and the PS3 and you actually expect EA to reinvent the wheel for your obscure need to buck the accepted, and might I add successful, system.  The accounts and online services are free for these services and you really have no excuse.

By all means lecture me about your rights and other pointless, self-serving mumbo-jumbo.  I'm just trying to point out the commonsense solution to a given problem.  BTW, I also live in Houston and fully expect an Aggie to "Just Get It."

Constructive feedback is always appreciated.  Arrogate commentary is really just a waste of everyone's time.  It could just be me, but I think the professionals working for EA has one or two clues about making good games and let's be honest here, titles like NCAA and Madden will sell like crazy regardless of the bugs yet to be squashed at the point they hit the store shelves.  That's reality.  Give good feedback and don't sound like a complete jerk,  You might be surprised at the results down the road.  If there is no response to common complaints after the fact, then stop giving them (EA) your money.  Simple.

Peter Moore,

I hope Favre lands on the team he's going to play for this season really, really soon!  Otherwise, this will be the Madden box art that has the best story ever haha.  I imagine it's far too late to change things now anyway.  Regardless of what happens with the man this season, I think it's poetic that Favre graces the cover of Madden this year.  You couldn't have made a better choice to represent all the changes in your latest version of the game and the NFL as a whole.

Good luck and keep the great products and services coming our way.  Please don't forget the little guy, aka the EA customer, in between releases.

Cheers (first time I've ever used that phrase...seemed appropriate).

Madden sucks and has for years. I was not impressed by the demo AND i HOPE THE ACTUAL GAME IS BETTER. EA does not care about its costumers because you guys keep putting out crap!!!!!! NFL 2K5 was the best football game I ever played! Who ever works on madden needs to be fired including you Moore for allowing this trash tp be put on the market...I WANT MY MONEY BACK FROM THE GLITCH  FILLED 08 VERSION OF MADDEN. If you guys could do with Madden what 2K5 did you would be the best hands down but you only want to make bs cause you guys have a monopoly going. Soon EA will be a thing of the past and I can not wait until someone steps in with some balls and delivers a realistic football game like 2K5 did, they should have the ESPN license not you clowns! WHY IS THE SUPER BOWL THE SAME AS ANY OTHER GAME, WHERE IS THE TROPHY CASE IN FRANCHISE, WHERE ARE THE PLAYERS GOING TO GET THEIR JERSEYS AT THE DRAFT!!!!!!!!! Who cares, you guys don't care anyway so Ill guess Ill wait for someone who does...maybe Ill do it myself. I'm buying 09 and giving you one last chance, if the franchise mode is not awesome im done with Madden!

I would like to respond to an above post regarding online connectivity, etc.  The reason that I haven't connected my console to the internet is because of spotty internet service.  My internet goes on and off-line for no apparent reason.  I can get the PC online to take of whatever but I don't trust this service to play a game online.  I would consider using consoles online to get patches/demos.  When I first bought my console I was living in an area that had frequent thunderstorms in the summer and extremely bad snowstorms in the winter.  I literally skied to work one day in 15 inches of new snow.  This can affect internet connections and getting on-line for a video game wasn't a high priority.

The NCAA 09 game is good but there is room for improvement and EA Sports needs to hear from us to make the games better.  I stand behind my comment that the PS2 versions were and still are more fun to play than the next-generation consoles.  This is because of the features.  90% of the features from the old games are not making the jump to the PS3/360.  Rumor has that a new XBOX console will hit the market in the future.  Do we get a stripped down NCAA game once that system launches like we did in NCAA 07/08?  If EA Sports can deliver the NCAA 09 PS2 game in 360/PS3 graphics then you have a game that will sell like crazy with very little criticism from the gamers.  There will always be criticism but this is what makes the game a must-have every year.  We always want it better and EA always makes it better.

EA Sports has a patch page and is right now using it for decoration and nothing else.

peter, instead of producing inferior games year after year, I feel you should take a couple of years off and produce a game that actually lives up to the hype.  I had such lofty hopes for NCAA football this year but after renting the game I have to say i was greatly disappointed yet again.  As a result of my displeasure with NCAA 09, I feel that the 09 Madden installment will also be a disappointment.  The only element of Madden that has been upgraded since 04 is the rosters.  So instead of releasing Madden neach year I feel pete and company should simply offer online roster changes aty the begining of each NFL season then gather all the producers of Madden, go back to the play pen you call an office, put your collective heads together and draw up a new version of Madden that is not only graphically superior but also fun to play

Unfortunately, Mr Moore, with the way your company bastardazed NCAA Football on the wii, i will refrain from picking up Madden, or any other EA sports titles (on either PS2 or Wii) for the upcoming year.

It was bad enough i had to pick up NCAA Football 09 on the PS2, and sell the Wii version, as the wii version didn't have hardly any of the features of the PS2 version.

I will give NCAA Football another look next year, although i will not get it on release day.  I will wait for reviews to see if it has improved over this year.

Why in the world you stick with Tiburon making Madden is beyond me.  One stupid playable camera angle after all these years...are you kidding me?  Still no refs on the field?  Still no in-game saves?  I've played the demo and it's still the same-old, same-old.

Looks like another year without playing videogame football...considering that I've been playing since the very first Madden back in the 80s, that really sucks.

Quit focusing on the casual football gamer with these EA Tron and Rewind features, and start catering to the ones who made EA what it is in the first place.

Looking at the two games, Madden 09 Demo and NCAA Football 09, the player models and overall graphics seem years in advanced for NCAA Football 09 over Madden. Is this just the demo that looks cartoon-like or will the game really look like this. I was hoping that Madden would have the same look as the college game or better. The same people design the to games. Why could they not port over the same look or improve on it. NCAA Football 09 looks amazing. Once they fix the roster problem, that game is going to be perfect. Any chance of a patch to improve the look of the game?

computerdude103 said:

Tmac,

I'm not an expert on the issue, but based on what I've read, and based on what I know about processors and games, the reason it runs better on the 360 is because of the processors.  The game selles better on the 360, so they thusly design it with the 360 in mind.  It is then "ported" to the PS3, but the problem with the PS3 is that it has 3 processors.  Game code doesn't like being split across different processors, and thusly Madden 08 (like most other games that are on both PS3 and 360) ran better on the 360 than the PS3.  it was a design flaw by sony when they designed the PS3, and it's a problem that effects plenty of developers other than EA.

Mr. Moore,

I must say that at first I was a little disappointed that the demo wouldnt be in the traditional "play-now" format, but once i played the demo it wasnt as bad as i thought it would be(Although i really dont like having to play as the Giants...).

The virtual trainer seems to be fairly well done, but i do have one big complaint about it that i think should be fixed for next year - To check for All-Madden skills on the passing offense and defense, let the player pick the plays! In my opinion, defending the pass is more about picking the right coverage and disguising blitzes, etc. to confuse your oppenent. Very few players control the cornerbacks, as the computer does so much more successfully. Most of the experienced madden players i have played with/against all control someone who is sitting in a zone so they can read the play as it develops.

Also, i am sure you are getting tired of hearing this, but i am also a gamer who has played madden since the start but still feel like it has some catching up to do on 2K5. I think in terms of on-the-field presentation and gameplay, Madden has surely eclipsed 2K5. But 2K5 had a much deeper franchise mode, the favorite game mode for maddenites. I know you are passionate about games and want to return madden to the pinnacle of sports gaming, so here are a couple of my suggestions - 1. Add a pregame, postgame, and weekly sportscenter/booth update - I know madden has the ESPN license, so it seems to me this is well within the realm of possibility. 2. Add more features to franchise mode - bring back the owner options, add trades with more than two teams, and allow trades of next years picks. Also, i really think that the trades by CPU during the season, offseason, and especially during the draft need to be made more common.

One other thing that is more of a stretch and i understand may be difficult to implement next year, but i think is a good idea is thus - Add these "Madden Moments" in-game. Make plays such as the Tyree Catch or Hester's missed FG return happen in-game, but make enough that they are rare and you wont see the same one in a season. Almost every game in the NFL has that moment where the entire crowd says "OOH" as a huge hit happens or a memorable play occurs.

I will admit i was a bit skeptical when i heard you were leaving MS for EA, but i'm now very excited about this year's madden and the future of hte madden franchise with you at it's helm. I dont think its quite there yet, but this years version is a big leap in the right direction. Just listen to the community feedback, and keep doing what you're doing. Sorry for the long post, and thanks for what you've brought to madden already.

I have been a fan of MADDEN for as long as I can remember.

Although I have not bought a copy since Madden 05 - why? - I play the Demo and think to myself "what has changed" - answer "nothing" - so I don't bother.

And this year..I see Madden 09 advertised and think - GREAT - let's see what has been done this year - and what do I read - NO PC VERSION! - that to use a amercian word - SUCKS!

It is bad enough that PC Games are disapearing at a rate of knots from all publishers - but now this? - and please do not use the piracy as an excuse - piracy has been going on since the year dot - and console piracy is just as popular now (if not more) than the PC..

GIve us PC gamers something to buy and we will buy it - leave us out in the cold and watch your profits drop!

I have been an avid gamer since the late 70's and have played every version of Madden since its inception.  Although the past few iterations were, to be gentle, dull I am really looking forward to this year's version.

I used the demo to give me an idea as to what the visuals and gameplay would feel like and both are much improved over the past three years.  I certainly hope that the Madden IQ in the demo is from the early stages of development because I agree that rushing and passing were way too easy while playing defense was nearly impossible.  Basically, I get the feeling that with my skill level I will be blowing out teams left and right (of course I understand that using the IQ is optional).

The one thing about demos is that they should be handled with caution, which I feel is what EA has done in this case.  If you give too much away then it spoils playing the actual game.  I felt that EA did just enough to give people a sense of what the game will look and play like and, hopefully, the actual game will be an improvement of both.

The one thing that confuses me is why EA hasn't included a lot of the great additions from games past.  For example, NCAA Football had team-specific entrances however it took two years just to get alternate uniforms included on the disk.

My question is how can a game like Madden, with NFL exclusivity, not include classic teams (ala Madden '93)??  Who wouldn't want to use the 85 Bears is today's digital bliss???  I know I would.  Also, why not include all of the classic uniforms and classic coaches such as MADDEN???

Thanks...

Eski

MADDEN WAS SUCH A DISSAPOINTMENT LAST YEAR AND EVERY YEAR SINCE i HAVE PLAYED NFL 2K5. IM A NEW FAN AND AS YOU TRY TO CAPTURE A NEW GENERATION OF PLAYERS I JUST WANT TO TELL YOU AS BEING PART OF THAT NEW GENERATION YOU ARE FAILING. MADDEN SUCKS AND THE DEMO LOOKS LIKE IT SUCKS 2. YOU GUYS OWN THE ESPN LICENSE BUT STILL FAIL TO USE IT BECAUSE YOU ARE LAZY AND DONT CARE ABOUT THE SATISFACTION OF YOUR CUSTOMERS!!!! ALL YOU WANT TO DO IS MAKE MONEY. EA NEEDS TO FIRE PETER MOORE AND THE WHOLE TEAM THAT MAKES MADDEN. FRANCHISE MOOD IS AWFUL, EVERYGAME INCLUDING THE SUPER BOWL HAS THE SAME PRESENTATION. THIS IS RIDICULOUS. I ALWAYS DEFEND YOU GUYS SAYING THAT NEXT YEAR THEY WILL COME HARD BUT YOU NEVER DO...MADDEN IS A JOKE AND 09 WILL SELL BECAUSE ITS MADDEN (AND YOU KNOW IT) BUT I ERGE WHO EVER PLAYS THE GAME AND IS READING THIS MESSAGE TO PAY ATTENTION TO DETAIL AND DEPTH IN FRANCHISE MODE! I BET YOU THEY COME UP SHORT BECAUSE THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT THERE CUSTOMERS...IM ABOUT TO SWITCH TO THE WII AND ADVENTURE GAMES BECAUSE MADDEN IS JUST NOT FUN TO PLAY. I WAS ALWAYS HYPED AT THE RELEASE OF MADDEN BUT NOW I AM JUST ANGERED BY EA'S STUPIDITY AND THE ORDACITY OF MOORE TO PUT BULLS^&% ON THE MARKET. MADDEN 07 ON THE PS2 HAD THE BEST FRANCHISE MODE YOU GUYS EVER MADE, WITH THE ADDITION OF ALLSTAR GAME IN FRANCHISE MODE; THATS SAD BECAUSE IT STILL PALES IN COMPARISON TO NFL 2K5. I HOPE MADDEN 09 DOES NOT SUCK THIS YEAR AND YOU GUYS ACTUALLY BE SMART AND USE THE ESPN LICENSE YOU BOUGHT. IF IM NOT IMPRESSED AND THIS BEING YOUR 20TH ANNIVERSARY ILL KNOW THAT YOU WILL NEVER GET IT TOGETHER AND PUT OUT A AWSOME TITLE. YOU CLAIM TO HAVE 85 NEW FEATURES AND THAT MIGHT BE TRUE BUT I BET IT IS ALL BS AND NONSENSICAL FEATURES NO ONE CARES ABOUT. YOU GUYS ARE IDIOTS AND IM ABOUT TO GIVE UP ON EA SPORTS AS WELL AS MADDEN. YOU GUYS SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MOORE NEEDS TO GO...THE MADDEN PRODUCERS NEED TO GO...I WISH ROCKSTAR MADE MADDEN, THEY ACTUALLY CARE ABOUT THERE CUSTOMERS AND FANS!

Hey guys, I've been playing Madden for years and will continue to do so.  I'm a fan of the series.  So I'm not here to bash anyone.  But I do have questions of concern.  For years, while playing Madden on the ps2, you guys have added new features every year to enhance gameplay.  Which is great.  But why did you guys take a step back when moving to the next gen consoles.  I feel that everything that was in the current gen versions should have been placed in the next gen versions, except with better graphics.  That was my thinking.  It shouldn't have taken 2 years for simple features such a line shifts and certain substitutions.  And you guys still don't have defensive assignments on the new game.  Why is that?  I just don't understand that.  You moved to a larger format, but so much was left out.  Madden 09 is probably the best looking game I've seen to date.  So you have the graphics down.  That's great.  Now please improve on the gameplay.  It should be better than the current gen versions, not worse.  As a player, we should have total control of the team.  If I want to play Urlacher at Tight end, then I should be allowed to.  And defensive assignments is definitely a must.  And why is it when I play head to head, my opponent can see which play I choose.  That makes no sense.  Why would you change that?  I love your games, I just want it to be the best game experience possible.  Please get it together.  Plain and simple, the next gen consoles should be ten times better than the current gen consoles as far as game play is concerned.  Fix this please.  Hopefully you can fix this and release it in a download or something to that effect.  That would be great.  Thanks for your time.

Like a good amount of people out there, I have been playing madded since day one..so, a bit on the older side.

I'm very disappointed in this year game, becuase while the flow, graphics, and gameplay do seem an improvement this year, the fact that time was spent on features like Backtrack, Rewind, Madden IQ, amonng other things instead of improving Superstar, Online and ESPECIALLY franchise mode is enough for me to pass.

Keep in mind that Gameplay is important, but in sports game, there are those RPG or Progression elements like Franchise that keep the game interesting. Playing a game at random gets boring after awhile. Competing, let it be Franchise online and/or offline ads the fun factor that make many of us pay $60 for this game.

You hear so many talk about the PS2 version of the game or MVP2005...they both had a great franchise mode.

WE NEED SOME COMPETITION OUT THERE FOR NFL GAMES, MADDEN AND EA HAVE AN MONOPOLY AND WORST OF ALL THERE NOT EVEN USING IT TO ITS ADVANTAGE!!!!! MADDEN IS PLAIN AND THE 08 VERSION WAS TERRIBLE....FRANCHISE WASN'T EVEN FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHY ARE YOU PUTTING SO MUCH STOCK INTO BS ENHANCEMENTS LIKE BACKTRACK AND ALL THAT OTHER BULL????!!!!!!!! IMPROVE THE GAME MODES...THESE ARE THE AREAS THAT MAKE PLAYING MADDEN REPETITIVELY MUCH MORE ENTERTAINING! BUT I GUESS YOU GUYS DONT CARE...I HOPE ESPN 2K SERIS COMES OUT SOON SO WE CAN GET A REAL FOOTBALL GAME TO PLAY!

Please some one let me know if the franchise mode in 09 on PS3 will be good this year; Moore please answer me back, 08 was a waste of my money because I couldn't even get past the fifth year in franchise because of the glitch...and the draft class that year was awesome :( I love Madden and I ONLY BUY IT FOR THE FRANCHISE MODE but these last few years this mode has been so repetitive and boring! Why is a regular game and presentation the same as the super bowl...I wasnt even happy I won it all that year? Where is the college all star game, training camp, practices to improve stats during season, and the real life presentations? I want some interviews, ESPN highlight film, post and pre-game shows! Its all about presentation Moore, thats what makes the game exciting. There are supposed to be certain things you should only experience in the super bowl or playing it will seem meaningless! I have given the franchise mode the benefit of the doubt for the last couple of years; I thought with PS3 I would see Madden franchise mode revolutionized, I was sadly disappointed and I am ready to call it quits. This is the last excuse I make for you, maybe you were just waiting for the 20th anniversary to usher in a new era...to reclaim the glory. I will buy 09, and I feel as if you guys dont care, but if I am not impressed with the depth of franchise mode (and 08 did not even come close) you have officially lost a longtime customer. I wont even pay attention to Madden anymore reguardless of the changes you make...this is your last chance. IT DOES NOT TAKE A GENIUS TO FIGURE OUT THAT MADDEN NEEDS TO DO WHAT NFL 2K5 DID, THAT WOULD MAKE YOU GUYS JUGGERNAUTS OF SPORTS GAME, THE TITLE YOU HAVE NOW IS NOT EARNED AT ALL!!!!!!!!!

Mr Moore,

I've been reading around and can't seem to find if Madden will have Trophy support on the PS3. EA has gone on record to say that it wants the PS3 version to be Identical to the Xbox 360. That being said, the X360 version usually has achievements and i'm wondering, if there will not be trophies right out of the box, then how soon can we expect a patch?

It's that time of year again...No, i'm not talking about the so called Madden holiday that accompanies the release of the game itself, instead I'm talking about the time of year when avid gaming fans like myself are bombarded with new stories and clips of the awards Madden has achieved at E3.  To be honest, these awards are meaning less based upon the lackluster performance of Ea's signature title over the last three years. Desite our desire for better graphics, more realistic playing features, and a better overall gaming experience, Peter and company have failed to meet our expectations.  It seems that Peter and the Madden producers are content on taking the Madden mold from the previous year and simply adding senseless features such as greener grass, brighter skies, and a larger variety of end zone celebrations.  Such insignifigant additions to Madden does/has not quenched the true Madden fanatics desire for a game that should by now include signature player mannerisms, better uniform options (tape jobs, sock and cleat styles & towels to name a few), better reciever animations, various ball carrying styles, defensive assignments, individual QB throwing motions, more viscious hits, more engaging sound bites, and more entertaining announcers.  Instead of taking the original Madden and making minescule changes to it year in and year out, I believe it is time that Ea shake things up a bit and dismantle the Madden franchise completely and rebuild it from the ground up.  However, despite this plea, it is likley that come this time next year I will still be fretting over the same core issues and my displeasures will go unheard once again.  Quite frankly I'm tired of using my hard earned money to purchase Ea's games.  In order to combat Ea's ever growing stangle hold over the sports game market I say we as consumers should band together and thus turn the Madden holiday into black tuesday.  If we refuse to buy Madden 09 are voices will begin to be heard and Peter and company may finally take our opinions into account.

I TOTALLY AGREE WITH THE COMMENTS ABOVE, WE NEED TO ALL BAND TOGETHER AND BOYCOTT MADDEN BECAUSE MOORE AND EA SPORTS DO NOT CARE ABOUT THE SATISFACTION OF THEIR FANS! THEY WILL NOT PUT OUT A QUALITY GAME UNTIL WE BAND TOGETHER AND MAKE THEM LOSE MONEY BY NOT PURCHASING THE CRAP THEY PUT OUT EACH YEAR!

I'm still looking forward to the game because so much of what I've seen makes me think we'll finally get a Next Gen version that will be worthy of what Madden used to be. The Demo was ok, but I'm not sure it was the best sales tool to make people think that this is truly the year that Next Gen Madden catches up to what Old Gen Madden used to be. I respect the amount of time and effort that the EA team is putting in to listening to the community.

Now I only hope that the game lives up to our expectations.

Mr Moore,

Here are a few things I would like to see in the next gen game.  I personally don't see them as major or anything, because they were in the current gen games.  I don't understand how somethings were left out.  I'll start with more realistic game play.  But, it's my understanding that this was addressed.  So let's hope so.

The next is defensive assingments.  I simply don't understand how this was not added.  Especially with the additions of player icons.  What good are iconic players if I can't match them up with other iconic players.  It was written that every icon has a counter.  But what good does that do me, if my iconic player is on the other side of the field matched up with a lower ranked player.  This is a staple in the NFL.  Champ Bailey would follow Randy Moss every where he went on the field.  My next question is can this be addressed in some form of patch or add-on/ download of some sort.  It's been around for years, so the blueprint is already written.  I don't see it as being a problem to recieve just as you receive roster updates.  Game updates should be downloaded and added as much as possible to bring the game on line with the current gen systems.

Another feature I'd like to see is defensive icons.  Meaning that just as easy as it is to change the route of a receiver, I should be able to do the same with a defensive player without having to actually click on each individual player.  It takes entirely too long.  For example, while on defense, I'd push the triangle button (ps3) (just like you do with receivers) and all DB's And Lb's would have a icon corresponding with a button.  Click that button and switch his assignment.  Understand?  If the offenense lines Moss up in the slot.  I'd want my safety to double him, not the outside reciever.  And this is what happens when you try to double team a player on the current systems.  Just an idea.

More uniform options.  I don't see how this is a problem if I want my team to wear Blue jerseys and the blue pants to match.  Options are too limited for this to be a next gen game.

Another issue is customized rosters while playing online.  With this I don't mean player ratings.  For example, I'd put black facemasks on all defenders of my team, for a more intimidating look.  As long as I don't mess with any of the actual ratings of a player, then customized items should be allowed.  To better distinguish each individual player online.  Al la SOCOM.  Just another idea.

I see plenty of people complaining of different game modes.  I.E.  Franchise mode, Superstar mode etc., etc..  From what I read, a lot of these guys have very valid points, that should be addressed.  As well as with certain online features.  And I'm sure that it doesn't take a whole year to address a lot of these issues.  I'm not here to cut you guys down.  You have a great product and that shows by how many people line up to buy it.  People love The Madden Series.  No doubt about that.  But the people also want a better game experience as well.  It's been great for years and that is the reason of the fan base.  But Madden 2008 on the next gen consoles was simply not ready for release.  No way should that have been sold to the public.  It was a shell of what Madden truly is.

Please look into some if not all of these issues with due diligence.  And it wouldn't hurt for you to respond to some of the messages left on this board.  At least let us know that you are listening.  A few patches to improve gameplay wouldn't hurt.  I believe it is owed to us as diehard fans.

Thanks

If you are a hardcore gamer, and hardcore franchise player, madden is not for you! Notice how I have finally stopped capitalizing madden, its not significant enough anymore.

Goodbye ea sorts...you suck

Peter,

Is there any way at all Wii owners could get the same game Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 owners are getting for Madden NFL 09? I am extremely disappointed in what you all decided to do for this year's version. I own '07, and '08 on the Wii and am happy with both since they are identical to the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 versions in both presentation and in commentary personalities. and when I started looking into '09 I started to get excited about it. However, whenever I started seeing how the graphics were going to be and how the control scheme was, I was immediately turned off from it, and quite frankly, I'm more than just extremely disappointed. I'm very, very mad. I know, I know, big deal I'm mad right? I feel you can still have the same game as Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 owners but still also have the simplified "All-Play" controls. Understandably so that the graphics won't be exactly the same, however I expected more effort from all of you, much like the ports of '07 and '08.

This year's Madden does not appeal to me at all, and to be honest with you here, I'm insulted at not only the graphics, but also how simple you're trying to make the game be. Granted, I'm not a "hardcore gamer," persay, but I expected something better from y'all this year than what you're selling. I expected the same exciting play and presentation, i.e. commentators, and play selection screens and suchm I experienced on the Xbox 360.
