Welcome to Peter Moore's Official Blog

In this blog you'll see what Peter thinks about sports, sports video games, and the industry in general. We hope this gives you an inside look at EA SPORTS, so please enjoy!

Peter Moore About Peter

Busy Week at E3

Apologies for the lag time between posts - here in LA for E3, where it's been a busy, but enjoyable, week for us here at EA.

I had a blast at our E3 press conference on Monday, showcasing NBA LIVE 09 and Tiger Woods PGA TOUR All-Play in front of more than 1,000 media and analysts at the Orpheum Theater here in LA.  Click here to check out the webcast on G4 if you missed it.

It was a real treat to welcome NBA Hall of Famer Bill Walton and LPGA pro Natalie Gulbis on stage to help with the demos.

With Dynamic DNA in NBA LIVE - an innovation that helps us integrate authentic behavior and tendencies of every NBA player and team by using the real-world data used by NBA teams in game ... and then updating it daily via online updates - we're investing heavily developing connected experiences for the online gamer as well as delivering unparalleled quality and authenticity in gameplay.

For those of you that have not seen the press conference, seeing Bill Walton in full swing is a sight to behold, and well worth your time to watch and enjoy. As you will see from the footage, Bill really got animated about such diverse issues as Spore, anti-smoking, Kobe, Phoenix Suns, Grateful Dead, the unpredictability of sports - all in about 90 seconds. He was a blast to be on stage with, and even more fun down in the Green Room, where he regaled us with stories of his time under the great John Wooden at UCLA .

Our Tiger Woods game is probably the best example of our new direction on the Wii with All-Play, with games that are built from the ground up with unique controls, presentations and modes.  With the help of PGA Tour pro Natalie Gulbis, we showed how a duffer like me and a pro like Natalie can compete on an even playing field.

Here's a taste of the scene backstage from our green rooms with Natalie and Bill, where we talked basketball and golf, as well as rehearsed our presentation.

And then in front of the bright lights of the Orpheum Theatre.

(Posted to the wrong thread-- wanted to post it to the latest one so it would be read).

Dear Mr. Moore:

In an earlier post you said, "We’re hitting this season in terms of quality and innovation stronger than we ever have at EA SPORTS.  If I’m wrong, you’ll see me sporting a new tattoo  - maybe a competitor’s logo?"

So by stronger quality, did you mean:

1. NCAA Football 09 for the 360 crashing when you try to edit rosters?

2. The CPU Sliders in the game NOT WORKING AT ALL?

3. Online dynasty mode not working, despite this really being the only 'new' feature included this year?

4. The Super-Sim mode quadrupling the number of plays that would have been in the game had you played it through?

This game is really a complete embarassment and SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN RELEASED IN THIS STATE. Seriously how does someone in QA miss the CPU slider not working? Or do you just simply not care because the sports community will buy it no matter what, because as a monopoly in NCAA football games, gamers have no choice?

I would love it if you would come out here, post an apology to the gamers that bought this game and either fix it as soon as possible or offer a refund since our local gamestop won't allow us to return it. Or you could explain what happened and why something like this happened. I somehow doubt either of those will occur and instead sometime in December we'll get a patch and/or hear about since it's so close to NCAA 2010, that the game will be abandoned to prepare for next year's DYnamic DNA feature or some such marketing nonsense.

I just feel like President Bush saying "The economy is great" or the Iraqi Foreign Minister saying "the Americans aren't here, that's just thunder" your comments about a commitment to quality are a joke.

Please, go around the marketing BS and be upfront and honest with us. Please fix it or honor refunds..or recall the game like Sierra did with Front Page Football 99.

I look forward to hearing your remarks, but I doubt we'll get anything except more marketing drivel.

Peter Moore:

Can you explain why the NCAA Football 09 on the wii is such an inferior product compared to the one on other systems, and even Madden 08 on the wii.

I understand graphics are not going to be as great on the 360 or PS3, but can you explain why wii owners don't get actual stadiums in their game, or online, or campus legend mode?

Madden 08 had all the depth of any other version of the game that I have played, so why cut NCAA 09 all short?    The graphics didn't even compare to Madden 08.  If the demographics that you are trying to reach with the "All Play" means that you are going to strip the game of graphics and features that we would normally find on the sports titles because the soccer moms don't need them, then I will not be purchasing another EA sports game.

Those who are waiting for a response from Peter Moore will wait for a long time.  This man has refused to answer questions posted on this blog for as long as I can remember.

Can anyone think of a question that has been answered by Mr.  Moore?

I have asked 2 times for clarification on the release date for Head Coach but Mr. Moore refuse to answer this question.

I want to know if I can expect to get the Head Coach game on August 12th if I buy the bundle?

If yes, then why does it take a full month to ship the game by itself?

The game will either be done by this point or not done.

Can I expect a voucher in my Madden bundle or the Head Coach game itself?

I won't hold my breath waiting for a response.  This man can't even stay on topic and will probably talk about tennis once again instead of EA Sports products.

Rugby! Do it!

Seriously the xbox 360 and ps3 need a rugby game and after the half finished problem ridden mess that was rugby 2008 on the ps 2 and xbox, its time for EA to redeem themselves and sort out a quality rugby experience!

EF-

He doesnt answer your question because that information is available already on all sorts of sites:

Head Coach WILL be packaged in the Madden 20th Anniv. edition. In fact, at first that was the only way youd get it. But the market demanded that HC be released by itself. So EA has decided to do so...but just a month or so after Madden comes out. It will be the same game.

----------------

As far as people hating on NCAA- you're all crazy. The game is great. The reviews are great. Sales are probably great. The rosters bug is being fixed according to one of the blogs and thats really the only problem and if it wasnt for internet blogs 99% of people wouldve have even noticed. But people just love to hate on EA for anything they can. Honestly, if a roster editing bug is the biggest problem then EA did one hell of a job.

And once again- this isnt just my opinion - just go to metacritic.com.

I still have doubts about whether Head Coach will actually be available August 12th in the bundles.  I have seen it posted on a number of sites but I would like confirmation from EA Sports that this will happen.  There is a lot of false information out there.  Gamespot and EB Games all lie to their customers about release dates.  This is not my first game to buy.  I have seen game's release dates "magically" change to one day later or sometimes a week later.  These companies don't decide to delay games overnight.  Changes in release dates are not communicated to sites very well.

I still don't understand why it takes a month to ship a game that is already finished.

I believe in responding to a question when someone asks you a question and Peter Moore has done very little of that on this blog if any.  Peter Moore is not very good at communication and I have yet to see where he actually addressed any of our questions on this site.  I am not the first person to say this about him either.  My questions are not the only ones neglected.  There are many others that have gone unanswered.  A simple "Go to this site for release dates" would be a sufficient answer for me.  Responding to users comments might take some more time.  It might involve reading this blog in an airport and responding accordingly.  Users post comments on here and they deserve more than a "no comment".  Since when is "I don't know" considered a bad answer.  We just get no response on this site.  If you wait for a response from Moore then you will wait for a long time.

NCAA 09 has been a very good game so far but I am already looking forward to NCAA 10 for more improvements.  The summer workout drills from the PS2 version would be nice and names for Division 2 schools would be nice.  This FCS South, etc has got to go.  The quickcall in recruiting is really cool.  It has changed the whole way that I recruit in Dynasty mode.  I haven't tried Campus Legend on this years game so I will withhold judgement on that part of the game but last year you couldn't start a coaching career after finishing your legend career.  I hope that has been fixed.  Game is solid but it is not a huge improvement over last year's game.

I haven't had any of the crashing issues that others have had yet.  I think that it is the 360 machine itself that is the problem.  Early models were prone to overheat. I have one of the first mdels. On last year's game my game would freeze after playing it for a long period of time.  I haven't noticed this problem for any other game but I would like to see this problem addressed by EA Sports for future games.

You dont need to look any further than the Madden 09 official site:

www.easports.com/.../countdown.jsp

Madden 09, the 20th Anniv. Edition, WILL be packaged WITH Head Coach 09.

Thank you for the link.

I guess that I have to decide whether to buy Madden/Head Coach or save 40 dollars and just buy Head Coach 09.  I like the strategy type of game more so I am leaning in that direction.  The 40 dollars saved could easily finance Spore or Final Fantasy 13 which are both on my list.

I really enjoyed your presentation with Mr. Walton at E3.  However, I wish that you would have shown off NHL 09 as they are doing a lot of really innovative things with the NHL franchise.

I know that the NHL doesn't sell a lot of copies in the United States but I think the new online hockey league is going to make fans of all sports excited for the possibilities with this very exciting new feature that I would assume will likely be in many of the other sports titles that EA develops.  It seems that it would be very easily implemented into Tiger Woods and would also be possible this generation with the NBA franchise.

I think that Mr. Littman and his team are doing a fantastic job and I wish they would be recognized more often.

Thank you,

Matt

EA can't fix the game they built.  I don't know what they focus on over there but it's a joke.

The Ps2 model of NCAA09 blows next gen out of the water in every way but pretty stadiums and player model.  You can say that is a big deal but wait.         You get those on the demo for free or at least two stadiums.   You will repeat the same games over and over anyway.  Why pay like I did to hear Corso for the thousand time say something you already heard on the demo.

Until they utilize Blu- Ray or rip to harddrive or even god forbid make me pay $1 a download for different commentary for each conferance we will be stuck in a repetitive loop of demo play for the full price.

I woud like to see an Espn Highlight show ten randomly made videos from simmed games.  They do it in Ncaa basketball.

Ps2 has practice 10 plays for a ratings boost during game. Sounds close to a game plan something anyone has played Peewe. knows about.

Ps2 had summer drills something we all know exists and gives us a hands on for the players we love

Ps2 had qb evade last year , pocket play in ps3 this year almost balances it out.

I want the big game experience.  Different commentary. The ablity to change stands to all white clothes for a White out night or wave towels like a lot of stadiums do.  A different entrance to a big game.  Something to let me it's different than get ten yards and repeat and oh you didn't notice but you won the BCS.

You want to really fix NCAA 09  utilize the Hiesman camera for any player any mode in the game. Why is that so hard to port to other modes.  I think the defense camera is too tight to the player to see the assignment but it's an awesome way to play .  I just can't stand the 50 screen plays I was asked to run over and over again.  Let me call my own plays please.. Player choices

I just recently found out about this blog. Does Peter Moore actually read these comments? If does, I'd really like to know what he thinks about the current concept of E3. I mean, John Riccitello from EA has said that he hates the way E3 is now.

On the other hand, Simon Jeffery from SEGA says that the old E3 wasn't any better than now, and that he wouldn't like  to go to "old days", when it cost millions of dollars just to be there...

NCAA Football 09 for the Wii is so bad that I'm taking this year off from purchasing any EA titles. I don't care how good Natalie Gulbis looks playing Tiger Woods; I just paid $50 for a product that was inferior in almost every way imaginable to NCAA 05 for Gamecube, and it's going to take time for EA to regain my trust.
