Peter Moore About Peter

Best Wishes to Tiger

I was disappointed to hear the news today that Tiger Woods is going to have to undergo season-ending knee surgery.  But what an incredibly courageous effort it was by an unbelievable athlete and a captivating weekend of U.S. Open golf.  Wow – Tiger never ceases to amaze us.

Tiger’s been an incredible partner with EA SPORTS for years now and we wish him all the best and a healthy recovery.  I guess the good news is that there’s still one place fans will be able to see Tiger playing the rest of the year – on the virtual links of EA SPORTS Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 09 when it hits stores the end of August.

I think we better get Tiger an advance copy of the game now that he’s going to have more free time on his hands…

This is fitting.  Tiger Woods golf game started on the PC and was the platform pulled.  Tiger and his game will be absent for this year.  Tiger gave a full-fledged effort in one tournament this where as EA Sports slapped an 08 on last years game and said that it was done.  Identical to 07 and we wonder why it didn't sell.  I am personally glad that EA Sports didn't do a half-a$$ed game again this year.  I would love to see the features in the 360 implemented into the PC version.  There are other golf games out there so I guess it is time to take my business elsewhere since EA is not committed to listening to its customers.

Hello Peter and company, I, like most people, have used this forum to express my negative views regarding the current direction of EA's games.  Although I feel that your response to the "heat" as you put it and subsequent response (listing EA's awards), was a cop out I'm not going to bash you for it.  I just hope that you are truly taking into account the requests and opinions of the people who take the time to respond to your blogs.  I personally like to focus my attention on Madden.  I feel your Madden title was the game that put EA's sport on the gaming map.  From my standpoint Madden has taken a turn for the worse since the Next Gen gaming systems were introduced.  Madden 04 marked the peak of EA's gaming potential because the game play was so fluid and the detail put into the players and game as a whole were right on the money.  In my humble estimation, the last three Madden release have been lackluster to say the least despite what the gaming awards might indicate.  In essence Peter, you really need to blow us away with your Madden 2010 release because it seems that Madden 09 is simply a mirror image of your previous Next Gen installments with a few minimal tweaks here and there.  Although I'm simply just a peon and hold zero clout in the gaming community here is what I believe producers like Matt Reid need to do in order to make Madden 2010 the greatest Madden instatement to date and put EA back on top of the gaming industry..  First and foremost, I believe that the makers of Madden must offer some new uniform/character options for the current player models that exist.  Looking around the league it is obvious that not every player wears Reebok cleats.  I feel it would be instrumental for the developers of Madden to offer a wider variety of cleats styles.  I realize that shoe and licensing contracts play a major role in EA's decision to stick with a single brand and design of cleat but I believe that offering the gamer a greater cleat selection, ala NBA Live and FIFA soccer, would add to the graphical superiority that Madden aspires to achieve year in and year out.  I also feel that the gamer should be able to adorn their players with towels (preferably with QB towels being worn flat and in the front of the uniform like Tom Brady and position players given the option of wearing their towel on either hip) and also be able to individualize to some degree the signature style that each player in the NFL brings to the standard NFL uniform and the game as a whole.  Examples of the way  players express their individuality on the field include their differing sock styles (Ex; Terrence Newman high socks, Deangelo Hall's 3/4 crinkled sock look, Peyton Manning's old school style, Jeremy Shockey's short sock look) skull caps worn under the helmet like Ray Lewis, running styles (for instance Reggie Bush has a sprinters running style while Marvin Harrison runs with a stiff upper torso and almost pitter patters with his feet), and the various ways players tend to carry the ball (example; Dre' Bly/Charles Woodson's respective one handed ball grip and the maneuvering of the ball from side to side while holding the ball with both hands similar to the flare that Deion Sanders brought to the game).  Also, the tape jobs currently seen in Madden also need to be upgraded.  The player models currently in Madden 09 look like they have uggs on their feet rather then tape.  Please resort back to the more realistic tape jobs that were seen in Madden 03 & 04.  Another aspect that can be improved upon is the stances that player around the league have come to be recognized by.  A prime example of this would be Simeon Rice's pre-snap sprinter stance, Champ Bailey's widespread 5 yard cushion coverage stance, D'Angelo Hall's in your face bump and run stance, or Lawrence Taylor's vertical stance.  Another aspect I would hope the makers of Madden improve upon is the ability to control a players actions during the week leading up to a game.  Being able to control a player's film study sessions as well as their eating habits and weight lifting/workout routines and their overall dedication to the game as a whole would offer a realistic touch to an already good game.  Hopefully this particular response doesn't fall upon deaf ears because I feel that some of these changes would make Madden more appealing to the general masses.  Let's face it, Madden is going to sell no matter what but making a few minor adjustments here and there could always help..Thank You for your time and please take my advice into consideration.

P.S.: I have provided a variety of pictures of NFL superstars in an effort to give the producers of Madden 2010 concrete examples of how the player models the Madden 2010 installment should look.  When viewing these pictures please take special note of the various sock styles, cleat brands, tape jobs, towels, unbuckled chin straps, and signature fashion style of each player and also take note of flare certain players display when carrying the football.

Can someone get the sales figures for the games being questioned on this site?  How many gamers bought Tiger Woods on PC in 07?  There were very few changes in the 08 edition so it shouldn't count.  A more accurate representation would from a game that got good reviews and that gamers wanted to buy.  We all want a new game not a rehash.  I personally did not buy Tiger Woods 08 for the PC because it was a rehash.

Give me stats for Madden on all platforms for last year.  Let EA do some math as to how many sales they will be losing.  FIFA shouldn't be the highest selling game on the PC but this is the game that EA is publishing over Tiger Woods and Madden.  Show Peter Moore that more gamers willl buy these two games than the other game.  If dollars are the only things that matter to EA then show them dollar signs.

Hate when people refer to athletes as courageous,,come on. He is a golfer who had a hurt knee..That is no different than me as a parent having a broken ankle but still having to take kids to the park and to all my responsibilities even though it hurt. Nobody called me courageous even though I could barely move.   He is not courageous, wish people would stop putting these guys (ie TIger Woods) on pedestals.  Doctors who cure are amazing, teachers who turn around troubled kids are amazing.,,golfers and athletes playing through an injury  not so much.

just wanted to say that i just played your demo for ncaa football 09  and you guys need to give yourself a big pat on the back if the final game is anything like the demo you finally got the animations right its very fluid and i can not wait to play the real game there was only 1 thing i seen that maybe you still can fix and that is when you stop the cpu ai to a fourth down its so anoying that it switches me out of the way i call plays wich is by formation to lee corso screen were it shows the punt so then i have to go all the way back to the formation screen because the cpu decides to go for it. its time consuming to get back to were i was it would be ok if they dont go for it cause i could just pick punt but if there calling a play it takes time away from me deciding what play to run. other than that great job the field looks good the camera angles are nice and the college atmosphere is alive this will be by far the best game you guys have made and i have played them all. thx for your efforts

I wanted to say that I'm hugely disappointed with Madden already this year.  Your company did a terrible job with Madden 06,07 and 08 on next gen.  You should be embarassed if you had anything to do with any of these games.

And like many people, I keep assuming that someone will realize how poor these games are and take some responsibility to return to the legacy that has kept Madden selling so well.  Unfortunately, I have found out that Franchise will see no improvements AGAIN.  I'm not sure how many years that is running, but its a few.

The worst part is someone (was it you?) decided that the focuse needed to be on online, EA rewind, and Madden IQ.  I hate to break it to you, but even casual gamers play Franchise.  I don't know a person that plays Madden without playing Franchise.

But apparently your priorities were somewhere else next year, meaning that whatever game does come out will be subpar becuase you've AGAIN ignored the Madden core: Franchise.

So congratulations on another subpar year.  Again.

Well guess maybe Tiger will now have time to see what our national sport of Hockey is really all about ...........since he seems to think no one watches it . Guess it is fitting tigerwoods is gone and so is his online golfing game that many of us want around to play. Sent him e-mail on this subject and he did not even bother to respond. Is it because I am Canadian a country he cares not even to come to? To think for many years he was my all time favorite so much so when I saw his name I bought the game............darn guess he made money off me there. I do have a question how long are the servers for 08 going to remain on?????? the least you could do is answer that question for us who supported you over the years by buying the game.

It's a shame after 7years of playing Tiger Woods golf on the pc online, 3 computers and 7 video card up-grades to handle the graphic's of the game,  and the price of the game each year, EA stops production of the game because from what I see they are talking about the money, what about all the money myself and a *** load of other people put out over the years to play the game and improve their systems to play and enjoy the graphics of the game????  maybe we should all send EA a bill for the money the  we have spent for a reinbursment???  and I hope they send Tiger a copy of this game while he's laying around with his bum knee,  but it will have to be a 08 copy since they won't be doing the 09,  hope he gets tick'd because of all the money he's gonna be missing out on with the game not be made....

Hello Peter,

It's unbelivable how a baseball game from 05 known as MVP 05 is still considered by many a classic, after four years of sports title from NHL, Madden, to FIFA. Then, when you take a moment to think, you realize that MVP had one of the moth deep franchise/dynsasty mode of all time.

The upseting thing is that Madden was going in the same direction with owner mode and more, only to have been completely wipe out with the next gen. I have bought a copy of madden since 1993, and in 2008 I skipped it. Sure, there were few good things that EA did with 2008, but when you get bored after one season, it doesn't become a game worth buying. Lucky for me, that after 2007 I decided to borrow the game from a friend, only to have come to the conclusion that I did the right think in saving my $60.

With Fifa 2008, I'm already in my 7th season. The way that manager mode allows me to address the press, get big sponsors, and work on scouting plus player development, and much more...make the game more entertaining in the aspect of wanting to continue playing. For me, a game has to give me at least 40 hours of play time for it to be worth my money.

With all of this said, you can see on the madden boards how many people are upset that franchise seems a dud this year. I'm hoping that NHL 09 and Fifa 09 have improved their franchise this year.

I think that the franchise players are more likely your quiet majority. It is your company to lead, but I know that I can at least speak about myself that i'm wavering on some titles this year because the lack of progression in the Dynasty feature...as for madden, I'm not wavering there...I'll be looking forward to 2010.

Peter, your cop out this year by not providing TW09 for the PC is inexcusable. The only reason you guys probably decided to go console only, is because for the past 2 years each version on the PC has sucked ass. You never fixed any of the bugs from the 07 version, you failed to provide a course architect (again!) and we were stuck listening to the same lame ass commentary from the 05 version. I've grown tired of hearing them talk about my pants for 4 years. You are going to lose out on a very large market because of your incompetence, lack of originality and improper planning. But then again that seems to be the golden standard at EA; don't plan, rush the product, issue a patch to fix major bugs, don't fix the rest, then rinse and repeat for the next cycle. In the end all you have is a big pile of ***. EA has destroyed one of the better franchises they had in shooters, that being Medal of Honor. You followed the same cycle I listed above and you bombed big time with Airborne, mainly because EA, like idiots, forgot to include large multiplayer support. Whatever rep you had with that game has been trashed. You constantly seem to *** up Madden, but have made great strides in NCAA Football over the last 3 years. All EA has done thus far with their exclusive NFL contract is piss all over it. In contrast, look at what Take2 has done with their license for MLB. They have produced a far better game than MVP ever was and probably ever will be should it come back. You had a good thing going with MVP College Baseball, but you never put in the effort to develop it. Speaking of Take2, I think EA's bid at a hostile takeover is deplorable. Trying to get rid of the only quality competition in the basketball market (Frankly the 2K series eats March Madness for lunch) while trying to get the exclusive rights to MLB back under your brand and eliminate any future competition in the football market. Speaking of basketball, you guys could learn some lessons from Take2, sans the takeover. They have fluid movement and controls, while March Madness is clunky and complex. 2K has better ball physics and allows for many more adjustments to be made without taking a timeout. March Madness has the college atmosphere and better off season recruiting, but lacks everything else. You need to do with March Madness what you did to NCAA 09. Make it indepth off the court, dynamic and fluid in the arena/on the court and interesting during the offseason.

That's about all I really have to say. I think your choice to pull sports titles from the PC market this year is lame, just like your company is turning out to be. I guarantee you though, I will indeed make sure that your decision about this matter is known in the coming weeks in the national press and you can *** well guarantee I will make you answer for your choice. I will do everything within my power to make sure the gaming public as well as the general public knows about this so they may provide ample response to your incompetent decision.

Sorry but, "Give" Tiger a copy??? Pullleeeezzze. Give him NOTHING. The amount of coin that dude brings in and the amount of dummies that wipe his butt for him is sickening enough. Barry Sanders rushed for over 2007 yds in '97 on a crap team carrying the rock through all kinds of weather, past swarming defenses in hostile environments.

Woods Got the "Athlete of the Year" nod and he doesn't even carry his own clubs!!!! He whines if he hears an ant fart, he plays in the nicest weather on the prettiest of pastures -that should really be for families to picnic on- and has everybody there waiting to golf clap his whiney butt every time he taps the ball. Gimme us a break.

And to top it off, Gatorade added a "Tiger" variety to their line of sports drinks when you have real athletes like Kobe Bryant and the rest of the NBA,  Fred Taylor and the rest of the NFL, our Olympic hopefuls, Derek Jeter and the rest of MLB, the NHL, Jai Alai players....etc that are all more deserving of such an honor and it gets handed to a..... golfer???

Do us a better thing Mr. Moore and put out a line of products that are worth the time and money of the millions of gamers who have been supporting this corporation for far too long w/o getting the respect they deserve.

On a side note, I don't play on PC but, You should be really ashamed of yourself for allowing the PC Online gamers of Madden and other titles to get the shaft this year. A lot of these people sunk a lot of hard earned and "begged for" dollars into their comps and had built up vast networks of leagues and FRIENDS with which to enjoy the game and ya slapped them in the face. Bad form dude. Bad form.

Give tiger a copy....hahaha, what a joke.

I got more but, I am sure I ain't the last one with a piece of their mind for ya so, that's about it for now.

As I do not care for Golf at the moment since Tiger is out, I would like to talk Madden and nothing but MADDEN right now and every day. I dont think you guys understand us members of the Madden community when we want a glitch free madden and the gameplay to force people to play the game the way those players on the field play and practice everyday. It pains me to visit madden gamin sites and see books and videos on youtube teaching people how to digrace the game of football and madden by cheating. Their motto is "if its in the game its in the game" as EA would put, and it seems as if this slogan has put EA's foot in its mouth. I am by no means a developer but if I were one I would feel so upset at the way madden turns out every year that it would be a goal as a company to make it SIM and stick to its roots a pure Hard nose football. Maybe you guys need to bracnch out your testers better and stop giving early copies to the idiots that run these madden sites just o get a free copy and they tell you exactly what you want to hear. We want NFL football at its finest and I hope to god there will be none of this nonsense that went on in 08 rolling over to 09 and then we have to wait til 2010 to get that one best madden we would talk about like everyone does with Madden 05 vs 2k5.

Get back to me and the community regarding this matter as we know you guys are in crunch time or on vacation since madden is just about or finished. I wasnt feeling NCAA09 but thats a different story.

Wow...No Madden....or Tiger Woods for the PC...yet you will release..........NHL?  What's up with that.......................EH?  For the last 7 years or so I have bought EA's Madden, NBA Live, and Tiger Woods.  Even through in Battlefield and the new one.  I can now say without a doubt, that I will never buy anything from EA again.  Especially a *** console game.  $39.99 is pricey enough for a rehashed pc game....but $60 for a rehashed console game is awful.  If you do come back with Tiger Woods in 2010, PLEASE do not sell in the UK.  Keep them out of it, because a certain group was instrumental to the downfall of the game.  Tell your support team that they won't get 1,000 emails a week if the don't ship there.

HI Peter,

Just two comments

With regards to playing EA online for TW008 it would be nice if the players would get some credit for people who drop or disconnect. This is a real problem with team games because once a player leaves it kills the whole game for everyone. Maybe there could be something like once your play pass the 3 hole, the game will count for all players.

Are there any regional/national tourements for TW golf play? (Thats more of a question or suggestion than any comment)

Looking forward to TW009 and beyond...

Just got introduced to Tiger Woods 07 for the first time and it left me wondering if any of the creaters have ever played the actual game of golf. When I play a game of golf I can take any club out of the bag at any time or situation, like I can use my putter when im on the fringe or my driver if I feel like it , not just the handfull of wedge shots you give us if were not on the green.

Not imprest at all. You seem to be all shook up that Tiger Woods hurt his knee at the us open , I Thought I heard one of the comentators say he played against his doctors advice, if this is true it shows the arrogance of the man and I hope he dosnt win any tournament ever again.

It is a real shame that EA has decided not to release a PC version of TW 09. I have met a lot of online friends, some who are disabled and have only the PC to play on not to mention the upgrades to our computers in order to play. I can't be;ieve that EA is losing money on the PC version. A lot of us just can't afford a console. If EA would improve the PC version I am sure that their sales would increase.

Mr Moore - I've read both your threads concerning the lack of release of TW09 for PC, and I don't believe a word of it.  You have thrown aside a HUGE community that has supported your franchise for years - and patronised it in the extreme by making pathetic excuses for not releasing the PC version.  We don't want to see other 'exciting new ventures' at the cost of our favourite game being unavailable to us on our platform.  Very few of us will want to change platforms just to run one title.

Shame on you two fold - once for dropping pc gamers without so much as a by your leave, and secondly for all the semi politically correct crap you give us that supposedly cite your reasons.
