In this blog you'll see what Peter thinks about sports, sports video games, and the industry in general. We hope this gives you an inside look at EA SPORTS, so please enjoy!

Peter Moore About Peter EA Support

Not Resting on our Laurels

I don’t know about you, but I’ve been captivated by the NBA Finals this year in a way that I haven’t been in years.  There’s no Cinderella teams this year, no surprises.  The Celtics and Lakers are the two best teams in the league, period, and both playing at their peaks.  Even the best players are going to have their ups and downs in a seven game series (Kobe in Game 1, Pierce in Game 3), but what you see in basketball in perhaps more than any other sport is how hard it can be being number 1.  I marvel at how Kobe and Pierce can consistently handle the double and triple teams, the constant pressure defense and the scrutiny.  Yet, when all eyes are on them and expectations are at a climax they continue to deliver. It also underscores the importance of home court advantage. Whether it is the proximity of the fans to the action or the controlled indoor environment, it always seems to me that playing at home is a greater advantage in basketball than just about any other sport…particularly in the playoffs.

As any business does, we’ve been completing our annual performance reviews the past few weeks as well as setting objectives and strategic priorities for the year ahead.  I find sports always serve as a great metaphor, and so as I was watching the game last night and reviewing our upcoming plans, I thought about what it takes to be on top, to stay on top and to constantly be in the crosshairs of the rest of your industry.

Some people don’t like the heat.  I actually love it, and it’s been inspiring for me to see that our teams here do as well.  Our teams are talented, passionate and motivated.   It’s a changing marketplace and they’re responding to the demands of our consumers by developing some incredible products for the season ahead.  You’d expect nothing less from EA SPORTS, especially when you look at the successes of 2007.  To set the record VERY straight (despite what you might have read to the contrary in the last day or so…), we had:

•    Four EA SPORTS titles get Sports Game of the Year nods by various outlets, including FIFA, NCAA Football, Madden and NHL.  Of course NHL was consensus best in class, as I mentioned a few days ago.  Named sports game of the year by seven publications.  No one comes close to that.
•    Three EA SPORTS titles in the overall industry top 20.  It was a great year for videogames, and Madden was No. 1 in sports and No. 4 overall.
•    Seven platinum titles (more than one million units sold).

I read the forums, I read your posts on my blog, and we do extensive research and testing to deliver the best sports games on the market each year.  We care what you say, we respond as much as we possibly can, and so I’m not surprised that early NASCAR reviews are very positive and that our Madden and NCAA FB community event recently had folks applauding the efforts coming out of Tiburon (more on that to come, BP).  I’m not surprised that NBA LIVE, which jumped 15 points in review scores a year ago, has the most ground-breaking feature from our lineup this year and we’ll unveil it next month at E3.  And I’ll say with supreme confidence that the future couldn’t be brighter for two of our most critically acclaimed products from a year ago – FIFA and NHL.

We’re never satisfied.  There’s always more we can do.  It’s what we love about our business.  I hate to sound like a cheerleader, but the facts are the facts.  And I don’t expect them to change any time soon.  We’re hitting this season in terms of quality and innovation stronger than we ever have at EA SPORTS.  If I’m wrong, you’ll see me sporting a new tattoo  - maybe a competitor’s logo?

You got that bet. If Madden is another disappointment in the community eyes, you have to wear a 2K Sports logo.

I'm sure you can take on that bet. ;)

Peter

I tend to disagree with your statement above. There have been a number of posts about news from you about the Tigerwoods game for the PC platform. However, there has been a stoney silence from you in regard to the questions posed. Even if you were to post, you have no info or are not able to respond, would be a step in the right direction, however, you choose to simply ignore these questions.  Where is the "care" from you in that?

With regard to testing, well all I can say is that with the 08 version of TW, perhaps with more dilligent testing, your team may have come across the issues such as an OB between a bunker and green on westchester, an inaccurate scorecard for that same course (How many par 5's do your team think there are at that course? LOL) creases in the fairways on Sawgrass and Cog Hill and finally,  uneven and dented Tee boxes at Sawgrass!! LOL.

I think your team should perhaps try out some of the replica courses that the PC Community are putting out....there's a big difference in real course accuracy, quality testing and playability that I suggest you guys could learn from!

Looking at this track record, I have to say it is no real suprise that there has been silence from you about this game on the PC for 09 and beyond. Personally, I think you want us to just resign ourselves to the fact that you simply have no interest nor the bravado or even the skills, to even attempt getting back into this market. Besides, there are at least 2 alternative games coming to market this year which may not be quite to the standard of EA's game, but at least they are soliciting feedback and involvement from the community, which will result in them getting better and surpassing the quality of EA for this game.

In summary, I can fully understand if it is a financial issue as to why there is not  to be an 09 version for PC, but for God's sake man....open your mouth and communicate that with us....don't just sit there in silence! And don't just generalise with the earlier statement about the PC market being challenging....it isn't specific enough.

Dear EA - Peter Moore,

I am new to writing comments to companies, but I used to be an EA fan, especially for the FIFA series.  However, year after year, despite the promises of visual upgrades and gameplay and physics, the series still plays like ping pong (too fast), the players look awful up close and they tend to be of same height (which I don't think has been fully corrected), there is still no fully licensed Dutch national team, and for a company that promises realism - where is the referee and linesmen?? where is the 15-45 minute half length (what is the point of playing a 5-10 minute length for seriuos players?) etc.

The Winning Elven - PES series has a much realistic simulation of soccer and now they even have referee and linesmen and at least a 15 minute half game length (total 30 minute games).

WHy can these basic things be in the FIFA series..??

Thank you.

well your going to unvail your nba game soon is what your saying i havnt purchased a nba live ghame since 05 cause nbas2k has been the best. but i imagine your going to do everything possible to make that change here is a tip for you since your all about getting it right like you said homecourt is an advantage in nba  as far as more than any sport i disagree nfl to me is the true hard to win on the road but this past year was the abnormally now nba well this year the home team has won alot lets hope this keeps true and the celtics win hate those lakers with a passion lol.

as far as making nba live a true sim game please do something nobody else has done and add tech fouls that players and coaches can get now that is true and if coaches feel they getting bad calls they complain only to push it over the edge.

have it were you have to call time outs to cool players or coaches down.

as for your nhl game  i am sure it was great but the goalies dont do enough to make it enjoyable i dont know how many times i stop playing it cause the goal only does like 3-4 moves no kick saves no loosing sticks when being confronted have you watched any playoff games the goalie allways looses his stick and has to do crazy saves before he re obtains it and how many times did you see players break there sticks alot only to play without untill they got a chance to grab another. please add those features.

bacardi gold said:

June 12, 2008 8:09 AM

oops forgot the nhl series game yes beats nhl2k by far but you really need to address

the time clock you have it set to were we can play 5-10-20 min periods the shots never work out right i would rather be able to set it to any min i want example 5-6-7-8-9-10 how hard is that to do not. and there is no pinning players wow i swear the whole nhl stanley cup was played on the boards pinning players kicking thats all it was big hits on boards dumping it in. it wasnt a pretty passing game at all you need to add pinning and the ability to kick pucks more penalty types and alot more penaltys it pretty sad when you play a game and you maybe get 2 power plays total then you go to your sim stats for other teams and see each one had like 9-10 power play chances in a game . and another thing lol after you score a goal ill give you an example lets say i score with sidney crosby your current game shows a close up of the play right? well right after that you show another zoom in of 2 players going back to the face off circle i dont know how many times i see sidney crosby go back to the face off circle then you zoom out to normal view and its not sidnery crosby its malkin taking the face off lol boy you pay attention to detail for sure.

and those pc ai   def forwards  that skate backwards  wow you never beat them you could have a 99 speed guy and you wont beat a 70 guy speed skating backwards that needs to go bye bye or bring back a speed burst button.

the face off system is weak need to have it were you use combos on your screen like x-o-o-y-x-x or what ever you follow the combos and you have a good chance to win it

and the combos are harder when you face a better computer ai faceoff so lets say you come up against a player who has a high rating in the face off circles when the puck is droped the combos that you follow on screen are harder if there weak at face offs then the combo is easy

to follow now that my friend would be better than it is.

1st i want to say thanks for the feed back and I am glad to see you back. Now for the games you mentioned, Madden has been a top seller b/c of one thing, NFL exclusive license, thats it. Come on, it took three years to get some commentary in the game. Great job with the NHL series, and the Live series has taken steps forward. Why? Because of competition. Sports genre games with competition will have to become better and offer ground breaking features to stay alive and gain the consumers favor to be profitable, therefore those games have become better and will continue to be great games. I have to admit I am excited about this years football offerings and I might just buy my first EA sports game from the shelves in two years. Up until recently I bought every EA sports game that hit the stores. Two years ago is when I put an boycott on EA and if the games that come out this year are worth my money I might just reconsider. I have been a loyal customer for many years and I want to continue but if every year all I get is garbage that EA wraps in a nice shiny box then I will continue to spend my money somewhere else.

Not resting on laurels?  What the hell would you consider deciding to dump a whole piece of the gaming market because you feel you are doing well enough in the others?

Basically what you have told PC users on multiple now titles is, "We own the rights, we don't want your business, go away, and you get nada from us."   No info, no games, no updates.  You have blatantly slapped us in the face with the silence and lack of respect for our platform.  You consider the PC market as posing challenges but refuse to rise to the challenge.

You make games based on sports.  Where would sports be teams decided to pull the same thing?  If the Texans didn't show up for a game against the Patriots... if the Sonics refuse to play the Lakers...if nobody showed to play against Brazil at the World Cup.    That sir is what you have decided to concerning the PC market.  You figured you were losing and would continue to lose.  You decided you just wouldn't show up.

You have made a mockery of the very sports you claim to love by your performance as a team.  You have failed as a coach of your team, and you have failed as a leader, both some of the very important pieces in the games you represent.

NASCAR, Madden and Tiger Woods all have been dumped for our system.  What is next?

So long as the swing stick has been fixed in this year's Tiger, I'll be a happy man. Tiger Woods 08 was borderline unplayable. As for NHL, loved last year's and can't wait for this year, especially with the PS3 being 60fps. Sweet.

The one thing that I am excited about is the fact that EA has laid down the gauntlet in terms of response to the public.  The announcement that the highlighted celebration boxes in Madden would be removed is just one example off the top of my head.

As a loyal video game lobbyist and sports game junkie it is nice to see a publisher who responds to public feedback in the way EA has done over the past few months.  This is the first time I have seen any publisher announce a new feature then alter it in the middle of production due to the public's response.

Let's hope the buidling blocks to the foundation of EA Sports is complete and we can revert back to the early 90s when EA ruled the sports world.  Not just because they were one of the only publishers to release sports games but because EA released the BEST sports games.

Just a little help.....BRING BACK NCAA BASEBALL!  The 360 needs an alternative.  With tweaks in gameplay and next-gen visuals the game will sell.  If EA makes it, they will come.......

Maybe the console guys take this communication as a big whoop-dee-fricken-doo.  OMG! OMG! EA is talking to us!  GOD SPEAKS!!!!

Those of us in the PC market have come to expect a higher level of communication.  We hammer websites on a daily basis.  This EA Sport info is a joke to the industry.  I could link you forum after forum of PC developers in discussion with consumers.

Along the same lines is the, "OMG they made a change because we asked for it" argument.  Again PC gamers have grown acustomed to things like patches, mods and expansions.  We don't suffer from the consoles permanant bug problem very often.

Maybe that is why EA enjoys the consoles crowd more.  It really isn't a money issue it is the fact that EA is lazy and just doesn't want to waste time with a standard of support that we PC guys demand.  Screw you Moore.

I have been playing EA's NHL games for years and for the last few i've been torn about whether or not to purchase EA or 2K.  While there is no doubt that EA's games are way ahead of 2K's technically, they seem to lack a true hockey fan's love of the game and its history  EA never includes heritage teams, or vintage jerseys like 2K does, embracing the history of hockey and those that appreciate it.  If EA included older teams like winnipeg and such i would be sold on it every year.

How much motivation are you displaying by refusing to meet the PC challenge Mr Moore?  You can't even be motivated to answer the angry comments and questions.

Why don't you mention the list of PC games that you have been neglecting to provide info for and the growing list of titles that you have pulled the plug on.

Are you kidding me.  Ea does not care about having the best sports games on the market.  Ea cares about money.  I have seen this with my own eyes for the past 3 years.   Anytime your company starts to get some competition, EA just buys them out because you know that company is making a better game than Ea.  Ea will continue too have the worst online games out on the market as long as you CONTINUE to keep not letting the hardcore gamers beta test your games each year.

Dear Mr. Moore,

I work in the industry as well, mind you I don't hold a position anywhere near as high as yours but I have been an EA fan for years. I am particularly a huge fan of the FIFA series. The thing is year after year I have yet to see those "Wow, they really changed it up this year!" improvements. Each FIFA iteration seems so similar to the one before.

I usually play FIFA games 2-5 hours on a daily basis for I am a huge soccer/football/futbol fan along with friends of mine. Some things I would love for EA to address would be to implement the Referee and Linesmen back into the game. FIFA World Cup 2006 had the Referee on the field but have been taken out since then. I would love to see more types of weather conditions added aside from Day/Night and the newly Euro 2008 added Rain. The character models still all look like they're made of plastic when shown up close. I wish the lighting would be fixed and the colors toned down. The brightness of the game makes it look like mannequins running on the field.

Last and definately not least Mr. Moore I would love to see  emotion in the game that represents the worlds sport. It would be great to see scenes of the fans going wild, the players emotions getting the best of them at times, the coaches reactions (Although this has somewhat been implemented in Euro 2008) and the bench reaction which is completely non-existant.

I really hope you are listening to your fans and your loyal customers Mr. Moore. Thank you.

Castillo on one hand I would like to think that Moore would be very willing to try to make his native country's past times very well represented in the video game market.  It is the American sports he seems to like to cut markets for.

However, unless you haven't been noticing by many of the responses to his blogs, he really could give a rat's rear about your opinions.  Loyalty is not a high priority in Peter Moores life as is evident by his treatment of "certain platforms" and customers that are just looking for info and reasoning.

He is more than happy to drop names, and events of all the amazing people and places he gets to see.  He apparently has an ego to match since he makes sure to throw his accolades in reponse "to what we may have heard".

However, he shows total disregard to those who are eager drop the money used to pay his check by his ignoring of various begs, pleas and general questions.  Instead of saying, we may bring it back, or we are holding it until we can make a more sellable product he displays his other accomplishments.

Great.  Bait and switch.  Moore you rank right up ther among used cars salesman on the loathesome meter.  Take pride in that accopmplishment.  Post that on your site.

Peter puts himself up there to be shot at, and he takes the flak. You've got to admire him for that.

So much of the criticism comes from the fact that EA's games are very good and so people are desperate for them to be just that bit better. It's great to see so many people caring so much about their sport.

Meanwhile I have to say I love EURO, great game.

Peter,

How can you chime about getting "best in class" awards when you've bought out the competition?  That's like bragging about George W. Bush being elcted to his second term as U.S. President.  Look what he's doen t this country.  The same could be said for the stagnation of graphic sports sims by EA - especially appaling is the control of the licensees and the lack of support for the PC.

All I can say, is I like your fantasy-world and would like a ticket to visit.

Another Moore loather said:

I disagree.  Peter deserves to be shot at.  He deserves the flak.  While I appreciate the potential of this blog he instead is letting it go to due to his insulting comments in conjunction with leaving needed comments go unsaid.

Most of the criticism comes from the fact that he refuses to tackle the tough issues and is turning tail instead of meeting challenges.  Most of the criticsm comes from him spitting in the face of PC gamers and expecting us to believe it is rain.

Newsflash, Moore.  This is not Microsoft where it was tough to find adequate competition.  There are other products on the market to preoccupy our time here.  EA Sports products can and will be replaced with the competitors you haven't locked down yet.

It just ticks me off that I have to replace titles that I have supported since the early PC and Sega days because they weren't so loyal.

At least something, you and your customers have in common.

Will there be FIBA rules and courts in this years live? The idea of having international teams in the game was the only thing that got me interested in 08, but - just like the rest - it was poorly implemented. Highlighting a 15 point rise in review scores seems a little strange in the case of a totally piss poor garbage product (07) having a still poor successor (08). New features might be good for marketing, but if the gameplay basics are flawed, they are useless.

Hello,

Let me start by saying i love to play games and the EA titles i have played in the past couple of years have been very satisfying.

in youre artikle i read the following which triggered my interest:

"I read the forums, I read your posts on my blog, and we do extensive research and testing to deliver the best sports games on the market each year."

In my everyday job i am a sofware tester. I investigate if the client actually gets what he wanted. I've been wondering for a long time now if there is a stuctured method for testing games. (i would very much like to get involved if so) I would expect EA to put much effort in making sure the games have as little defects as possible. Could you tell me some more about the way EA performs tests on games? Is there an external company you hire to test your products? Did EA perhaps develope her own method for testing or does the company ask certain people to just play the (beta)game trying to achive certain goals or perform certain actions?

Kind regards and sorry for the bad english.

I posted this exact post in previous Moore blog and it still applies so i will just cut and paste.

Just to sum it up: if selling these titles for PC was profitable, EA would do it. EA isnt this big of a company because they go after projects that lose money.

And while you are hating EA...why not hate every other publisher? Even before the exclusive sports-leagues deals were being signed EA was the only major publisher to put out any sort of quality sports product for PC (i think the last NFL game that wasnt Madden for PC was NFL Gameday in 2000...the 2k series never published on PC)

----

I truly sympathize with the PC guys who are left out in the cold for these titles...honestly I am. However I cannot fault Peter or the guys at Tiburon or in Vancouver for not producing the titles on PC, especially here in the United States where console gaming reigns supreme (unlike most of the Eastern hemisphere).

The concept is simple, PC SPORTS titles do not sell well in the united states and thus are unprofitable. In fact EA probably loses money on the process (between the development costs and production of the actual disks costs).

If you are truly a sports gamer fan then getting a console is simply your best option. XBox360 especially when considering the massive sports community over XBox Live.

Instead of treating us with some amount of respect and offering an explanation and some answers he has treated us like nobodys and completly ignored us even though we were LOYAL and bought from them year after year. You started this by your actions or lack thereof Peter and only you can stop it. People are going to keep posting and asking until you do.

Common Sense,

I understand the "business reasons" why. I'm just trying to get some kind of explanation from Peter on why we PC er's were treated the way we were. From the start we were not given a (in my opinon) very good explanation. And when we post to ask questions and to voice our opinons he ignores them while replying to and answering other questions. There were many good and valid posts that deserved some kind of acknowledgement from him.

We bought Madden PC and other PC titles from them for years and beacuse of this we felt that we should have been treated better by him.

I'm still waiting for an explantion or answer for: "Did he give any consideration to those of us who do not own consoles? We were completly turned away.

As for buying a console. No disrespect to consoles, but I choose not to. If Peter cannot respect my choice of platform (PC) then why should I swtich to a console and buy products from him? I will stick with my Madden 08 for PC.

Continuous improvement is always a good thing. And there are many areas in which EA Sports could improve.

For example, with the introduction of running back field goals, Madden will now be closer than ever to actually representing the game of american football. Always good to implement long standing rules for a game, many years into a franchise. Fixing longstanding defects (such as turning the volume of the radio announcer to 0 in your profile, and yet hearing him every new session and having to set the volume again) - also a good idea.

But one thing that all frameworks preach about Continuous Improvement is that such improvement must be measurable. If you truly believe that things will improve, quantify something against which your boasting may be measured. Then it can be clear to all if you are wrong or not, and whether you'll be sporting (if you pardon the pun) new ink.

Otherwise, sir, it is indeed simply cheerleading and empty rhetoric.

If you had read my post above, you would have noted i would accept financial reasons for the lack of a PC version of TW09. However, what you have failed to observe, is the fact that Mr Moore and all of EA, have neither confirmed nor communicated in any way, as to whether it is due to financial reasons. You have simply assumed your thought process is correct, when it might not be.

What I am most frustrated about, nay ANGRY LOL is the fact that there has been NO comms from Mr Moore about which titles are being dropped this year nor whether they are intending to release a new PC version of TW in the future.

While we are on the subject, from what resource do you actually base your argument on, in regards to PC games sales verus Console...or are you just assuming again? I have no idea myself, as I am not in the USA.

I do not hate EA nor do I despise Mr Moore. However, I am frustrated at the lack of customer service when it comes to communication about these facts.

The very least EA can do, is to respond to the questions posed on another thread regarding how long they intend to keep the TW Servers going and whether the PC fans can distribute stock 07 libraries, as the only way to keep this title alive for the PC community, is to allow those custom designers still using the old 06 course architect program to design, to use them in their creations and to then release new courses on which the community play.

There is one such team of designers who are i believe, creating all the US PGA Tour courses this year for use on their own online tour, which runs alongside the real tour. (Now that's innovation!)  Utilising the additional 07 stock libraries may enhance these creations and those from other designers, in an effort to keep the popularity of this game ticking over or even increasing, whilst EA sort themselves out with regard to a future release.

I would like to hear the answers to all the questions posed in these threads regarding the PC platform, from the one person who actually knows, not from someone who thinks they have the answer.

Thx

MR A from TW

I wish that EA would realise that a little bit of competition is good for the marketplace. When you have people out there producing similar products aimed at a similar market to you, you really do need to up your game or you'll just get left behind.

The policy of competetive buyouts that seems to run rife in this coporation is astonishing, and removing the competition from the market just limits the choice available to the consumer. You (Peter) claim that your company actively listens to their consumer base and tries to improve your games based upon that feedback, but to be frank - you don't have to look far to see complaints from people, games industry reviewers and industry professionals that these 'annual releases' are little more than statistical updates with the obligatory one or two 'new features'.

Some people may want to purchase a game to get the latest season stats, but by not listening (and I mean properly listening and acting upon) your customers' concerns, you are doing them a disservice.

EA, as a 'global entity', release some gems on occasion, but sports are a really dirty area for them. Rehashed products that have little or no improvement over their predecessors, sometimes are extremely poor console ports, and seem to be too rushed out for the developers to finish fixing all the bugs.

Competetive markets = competetive products. People will always strive to make their product superior to those of their counterparts. However, when you have no competition, it would seem that there's far to much emphasis on sitting back and watching your cash-cow accumulate more vacuous wealth.

To be fair, if people are complaining that they don't like these rehashed products - then don't buy them. If enough people did, EA would have to stop making them and turn to other endeavours. If you don't buy, they won't make it, it's simple.

Hello

I just wanted to say that this years nba live 09 should be the peak of the series.

nba 2k9 is also due to be very popular. However, in this years nba live 09 the feature of "edditng players" would be a great help, as last years version (nba live 08) this feature was locked.

aslo it would be better if ea sports could try and acquire as many rookies as they can, which will be up coming in this years draft.

i have loved all the nba games, and i hope this years game is top class.

thanks for reading this

and good luck with the game.

please email me with updates about nba live 09

many thanks

And one more thing. Don't give Peter a hard time for his ferocious support of all-things EA, he's simply a devotee of whoever is paying the biggest cheque.

If Nintendo offered him a $20m a year contract, he'd tattoo mario on his face and profess that everything they do is flawless and angelic in its perfection.

That's business, folks.

Dear EA, It seems that NBA live has improved since 2007, 2007 had a poor  camera angle but that has changes since NBA 2008 kicked butt!!!. But this years game should be all about the true feeling of the game. At home you should be able to slap a high five to someone in the crowd or on your team after a nice fastbreak. There should be more creative dunks also. This is not a wish list also just suggestions from a fan who has all of the live games. But also there should be a superstar mode. I mean NBA 2k games had them but live never had them this would be a huge feature for the game think u

I'm not sure if you (Mr. Moore, and whomever else at EA this might concern) are aware of this, but we, the long-time fans of your series (NBA Live, FIFA, Madden etc.), get the idea that you prefer a first-time buyer over us. That is perceived by many of us as an insult. Think about that, and keep it in mind.

EA signed the exclusive Nascar deal and murdered a long storied PC series from Papyrus.  Papy had no interest in consoles.  They never did.  EA made sure Papyrus pulled their product.  EA was warned that by the sim racing community that we would make sure that their product failed unless if it fell anywhere short of mind blowing.  We followed through.  EA has not come back and has no intentions of it.  This all is payback for our attack.

Papyrus' Nascar series was popular and was the best sim racing series ever made.  As a point, 4 years after it's demise and given the fact the the initial product is outdated, it can be found on Ebay for 2 to 3 times the shelf price.  Moores belove "Paintbooth"  Feature was implemented in a 10 times better manner in the early 90's and now he thinks it is mind nlowing for the console creeps.

I don't want to hear that nobody else will make a quality game for the PC if EA didn't have the contract because that argument is blatanly a lie and/or ignorance of facts that are out there.  EA is staffed by a bunch of egotistical dickheads and Moore is at their head.

To Former EA Supporter:

Well said and thats understandable. Thank you for your level-headedness.

-----

To Mr. Angry:

I base my argument on my masters degree in business matched with following the industry closely for a very long time. If you were in the United States then you would notice that the PC SPORTS (keyword is SPORTS) market is very small. Ive been in retail as well...PC Sports titles do not sell well here AT ALL. Thats why most EA games after only a couple months of shelf life are repackaged as those buy-5-for-discount packages. And thats also why other publishers didnt even bother with sports titles even before EA started claiming exclusive rights. In fact, 2k never has even with the MLB exclusive.

----

To @ Common Sense:

Your message is downright laughable.

You 'attacked' EA, huh? You 'warned' them, eh?

How about this simple fact: USA is a console SPORTS (keyword again is SPORTS) gaming market. Your 'warnings' and 'attacks' had nothing to do with it. The market just shifted heavily to consoles especially once the PS2 took over.

----

Look...It may all change and the PC market has a lot of potential (it does, thats obvious). But the DEMAND is lower than some of you apparently think. Even if they released a quality title (which they have back when PC was a focus say 5 years ago or so) the sales apparently did not back up the investment by EA. If it HAD then theyd still be making the games and innovating them just like they do for every other console.

Peter: well done by everything. The reviews for NASCAR 09 are stellar and I look forward to the rest of the summer releases.

Well if they do not want the *** PC market open the frigging thing up to developers and publishers that do!

Plain and simple.  There are other companies that want of serve us.  If the PC market does not fit EA's new business plans, let it go instead of holding us hostage.  A customer that will not buy a console game will not be a lost customer since they wouldn't get our money else where.

WTF does your high and mighty master's degree tell you about angry customers, they often don't come back and take friends with them.  Word of mouth is an important thing to a buiness.  I have cost Alienware at least $75000 by word of mouth by sending potential customers elsewhere.  My piece of junk system sits on display at my shop for everyone walking through to see, along with screenshots of piss poor customer support.

I can tell you of at least 4000 racers from one sim racing community alone that will never buy an EASports game again because of EA Sports' practices.  For certain games their are things consoles cannot give you.

Take NASCAR for example.  Racers were able to paint their own cars and upload them in 1995 on PC.  Racers were able to perform "realistic" adjustments in 1995.  PC Racers were given the best physics.  Even today, the most realistic physics exist on PC.  In game series outside of EA control.  Why could EA not do this?  Why is a gaming community full of modders able to keep a dead game afloat and better than anything that EA can develop?

Atari/Eden was able to develop Test Drive Unlimited across all platforms, and again PCs had the best physics. But yet we can not get a decent racing sim out of EA.

Now look at Madden.  Why is it that every other PC game publisher is able to put the most stunning graphics into PC design but EA Sports cannot.  Why were our products so different to start with?  Many other developers are able to give us mere "ports" (often when we don't want them).  Why is it that EA Sports cannot figure out that tactic?  Bethesda, a company that trembles in EA's shadow, was able to give identical Oblivion games to the XBOX and the PC on relatively small budget.  Why does Madden look and feel so different with less graphical and physics requirements? There is no reason except for failure at EA Sports.

Activision was able to put identical games out for Call of Duty 4 across all platforms and even give the PC users something extra since our networks are able to support more players at a time.

Heck there are even companies that have figured out how to allow PC gamers to play with XBOX 360 gamers on Identical products cross platform.  Shadowrun, Frontlines: FoW, Gears of War and Halo:(X) to name a few.  But yet EA Sports Cannot.  FPS game have very similar latency issues as sports games but yet EA cannot grasp this.

What percentage of households have PC versus those with next-gen systems?   PC have the lead hands down.  My household has 5 alone.  I would argue that the reason PC Sports suffers was due to EA Sports failures in putting out good product in conjunction with the exclusive contracts.  The market is there if EA Sports is willing to figure it out.

But yet they run way and cower.

To me, I can see Madden on the PC going away (however I liked the idea of a download vs purchasing the actual disk) but not to have Tiger Woods which, IMO, works quite well on the PC.

PC gamers, I stand behind you however having been a long-time console owner (my PC is monopolized by my wife for WoW) it doesn't mean that I cannot compliment your nemesis on staying in tune with the console community.....

I totally do not understand why games are not made of the same quality that of the consoles on the PC system. Having only a PC system which allows for flexible purposes, i always enjoy sport games. EA is the only company that contributes to genre on the PC which i have been a supporter for years having Madden, NBA Live, NHL, Tiger Woods, FIFA, etc... but every year, i would be disappointed for its lack of improvements giving me the feeling of the same game every year with a new roster change. However in 2009, NBA Live, Madden is discontinued on the PC which as a PC gamer completely angers me. If other PC games can be ported from consoles like Assassin Creed and soon Devil May Cry 4, why couldn't games like NBA Live and Madden be ported to the PC systems?

THEY GIVE US A CRAP WE GIVE THEM NO PROFIT!!!

THERE ARE MANY THINGS LEFT UNSAID IN THIS CASE

Hi Ea Sports!

Hello Mr. Peter

I ve been playin Fifa series for so long ,..I love to edit these games too,...and I think the following additions may improve this game,...

1. INCLUDE CLUB RANKINGS + PLAYER RANKINGS + WORLD (EUROPEAN)PLAYER of the year award news.

2. Replay system needs to be REALISTIC,....replays and highlights shud  include BROADCAST camera + WIDESCREEN (looks beautiful when there is curl on the ball),.......MINUS those unrealistic swing and moving ccamera (please delete them they are annoying)

3. INTRO shud include handshakes in CLUB games also + team taking photographs before match. And camera flashes when the game kick off....Champions league anthem during CL match.

4. Need more CELEBRATIONS ,..final and semifinal goals shud have special celebrations,....also when team qualify, how about players clapping towards the crowd for their support,....FINAL CUP CELEBRATION IS HORRIBLE,..lots of hard work to win final,.but no medals?no cup lift? no firecrakers? no tears of joys?? and how about capturing those moments in pictures and place them in Hall of Fame with match facts??? players may leave the club or retire, but those pictures  will remind that game.

5. Different stadiums having the SUN at different position,..Home depot center is my favourite, cos it has sun at north west position unlike other stadiums,so after I edited it n it felt like travelling away games at different time schedule( morning ,midday , afternoon schedule) ,..

6. "SEASON HIGHLIGHTS" ,.how about capturing a goal of each match and compile a music video at the end of the

season (highs and lows of the season)

just want to say, your new Euro 2008 game is great!, and to date it's the best playing soccer game you have done. I "hope" that you take what you have done with the euro game and implement it in your next installment of FIFA. specically the gameplay and presentation. Every fifa game that you have release is always diff. from the prev. year. All you need to do is do small tweeks to the Euro engine, and you will def. have the best soccer game in the world. C'mon guys don't tease us with this game and then pull another crappy fifa....fyi fifa 08 sucked! Additionally I thought the 06-07 champions league game was great, please, please release another. A champs league game that plays and feels like the new Euro, would be amazing!! ...don't let me down guys

I read a review of Madden 09 on Wii and it seems like its similar to what people have been saying about the PC version of Madden the last few years:

"The real issue is that, while EA worked hard on making All-Play, refining online, adding 5-on-5, and upping the overall on-field look of Madden, all the modes you remember from 08 and 07 are left almost identical to what they were previously." (IGN review of Madden 09 on Wii)

This is what worries me about the All-Play direction.  It seems like maybe the fans who have been buying madden our whole lives are going to be put at the kiddy table and won't get the new things that actually make Madden Madden.  What I'm talking about are new additions to Franchise and Superstar modes.  Also the Head Coach 09 game.

Are there any plans to update the wii version with some of the same options that the 360 and PS3 have?  Will next years version be more similar to the other consoles?  Are there any plans to port Head Coach to the Wii either later this year, or a version next year?  Head Coach definitely seems to be selling well in the Madden CE, according to gamestop, for the other consoles.

Thanks,

Jason

Also, I was curious as to whether or not the Wii version would allow for online leagues, like in the 360 and PS3 version?  I've searched, but haven't found any information on it in reviews or anything.

Well EA Sports, I hope you have to declare bankruptcy or at least chapter 13 protection from your creditors. I hope your Board of Directors all lose their pensions and they all have to declare bankruptcy as well.

Hey Peter Moore,  why do you allow cheaters to remain in the ranks for MADDEN 09 PS2?  For example a guy by the account name of xYUTRYNMEx keeps taking free wins, by playing against the same account name over and over and the scores are always, 22-0,24-00, etc. OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN.  Under feedback I have reported these people COUNTLESS TIMES, and never once has there record been erased for it.

If your current staff can't handle the SIMPLE JOB of cleaning up cheaters in the ranks then give the job to me I can do it.  check out this guys record K COUNTY SV , here is another guy who has like 300 wins and 1 loss and who has never even been scored on.....YEAH RIGHT!!

lETS GET WITH IT !!!

Do you ever respond to these articles it doesnt look like it?  Look at the top 10 ranked guys and view their careers, then check out their last ten games played, I bet  at least 3 of them (including the number 1 guy overall)  is taking free wins, they never actually play the games.   THIS IS BS.
