Peter Moore About Peter

More from NYC with Brett Favre!

Following our unveiling Thursday evening of Brett Favre as the Madden NFL 09 cover athlete on The Late Show with David Letterman, we followed up with a luncheon in New York City honoring the legendary quarterback on Friday.

Sponsored by EA SPORTS, we brought in Sterling Sharpe, former teammate of Brett's in Green Bay, as the MC. Also present were Steve Mariucci, who was Brett's QB coach in the early years, as well as Matt Hasselbeck, who was back-up to Brett in Green Bay before moving to Seattle.

I've attached some exclusive pictures of the event, including the presentation to Brett of a limited-edition Xbox 360 featuring the cover artwork. Great event, honoring a tremendous athlete and human being.

Peter, I have read some interviews and have been impressed with the new features in Madden, mainly around online leagues, being implemented.  I didn't buy Madden last year for the 1st time in over 15 yrs because the poor regressive devlopment, no online leagues and better product from the competition.  I hope to be swayed back - what would really do it is:  Allow leagues to have computer run teams and/or allow admins to sub in computer ownership for a human owner that has gone MIA (biggest problem of online leagues is loser's quitting).   Doing this would ensure continuity for online leagues and make your product a huge online success.  Thanks for listening.

(Sorry for repeating - I posted this on last thread, but it was long and this one is fresh.)

I have to second the suggestion that Mannificent mentioned above.  If you are going to have online leagues it is IMPERATIVE that a contingency be made for those persons who drop out of the league mid season.  The automatic implementation of CPU controlled teams is a perfect solution and fair solution to remedy this problem.

I would also take this a step further and allow the league organizer to determine the size of the league and be given the choice to have CPU teams augment the human players in the league to flesh it out.  This way you can run a full NFL league without having to have 32 human players.

Thanks Daley!  I agree 100% with all that you stated.  I don't see these improvements being hard to do - you can have a full computer league offline - the AI is there.  Continuity and progression is the biggest fail point in online leagues. Implementing these improvements would boost online league popularity to a whole new level!!

madden 09 looks terrible.  the player models have regressed instead of getting better.  the players still have reeboks on not nikes, no towels or hand warmers, their chinstraps are not unbuckled, their tape jobs look pathetic, and their sock lengths are not varried.  Needless to say I will not be purchasing another Madden game until they upgrade the player models to advantage of the power of the next gen gaming systems

I would like to know if there will be the inclusion of classic teams or classic game modes in Madden.

I have been an EA fan since Dr. J vs Larry Bird (yes, the old Commodore 64 version).  One thing that confuses me is that through the early 2000's, EA was adding many great features that seemed to disappear in the next-generation of consoles.

One thing specifically was classic teams.  Madden 93 is, in my mind, one of the best because of the classic teams.  Madden 92 had in-game highlights from other games which has yet to be replicated on any of the most recent versions of Madden.

Even in NCAA Football where team-specific introductions and TD celebrations (Longhorns' cannon) were added several years ago,  these elements are no longer "in the game".

It appears that Madden and NCAA are on the right track.  I hope that some of the items mentioned above make a return....Even an option to play classic Madden versions....

Lastly, I would like EA to consider re-creating some of its classic sports games such as Dr J vs Larry Bird or Jordan vs Bird.

Those games were ahead of its time with real players.  Dr J vs Larry Bird had a shattering backboard and replays while Jordan vs Bird had a dunk contest and 3-point shootout.

With today's technology, these games would be sweeet.....

If Madden 09 is as Lackluster as the draft screens indicate I to will be passing on this years version of Madden.  My initial inspection of the player models for 09 shows that the only upgrade that has been made to the plaer models is the captin's "C" on the uniform.  Once again the uniform of the Falcons is wrong, the ankle tape jobs look bulky and unrealistic, the players still have no option for having towels added to the uniform, the players who are Nike sponsored are stillshown in Reebok cleats.  I mean if the early screen shots are any indication of whats in store for Madden 09 I have to say I will be disappointed and will not buy another EA product until their signature game lives up to my expectations.

P.S.  Some feed back from Peter and the other individuals who have created Madden 09 would be welcomed!

Here is just an example of how NFL Fever had better uniform options in 03 then madden does/will in 08..Take notice of the towels on the uniforms and the handwarmer worn by Tom Brady.

Mr. Moore

In response to the very first posts here.  Online leagues should be alive not static.  You can start a league with twelve people and after 60 seasons have a completely different set.  If a person has to leave or is kicked out , the team for rest season goes up to auction/bid/invititation for general public and is computer run until a replacement found.  If the league drops to 3-4 human competitiors then a kill league option will open.  I would also like to see just a commish option a person could be run many leagues if thats there thing, like moderators do on message boards.  It would open up a neat little outside game of lobbying for the best commishoners.   If commish is problem 2/3 vote of members to have them removed.  like a real coaching carousel  you don't have to keep the team you get unless it's mid season. I am sure there will job movement for members in 60 years...  and when is the last time you heard of a 60 year coach at one school? Joe Pa... oops forgot.. Bobby don't count cuz he really coaches under Jimbo..

Dear Peter Moore,

I really hope that you read these personally, or I hope that an assistant will forward you this comment because I feel like it is really really important.

**Please take the time to read this it's long but really important**

I recently read an article on IGN, very sad you will not make Madden available for the PC.  First your stance on piracy, did you know that an X-Box, PS3 or almost any game system can be hacked and cracked?

(I don't condone, I buy all software at retail price.  Hence over $2000+ dollars of dev software)

Second, you are quoted saying that "sports aren't part of a PC movement, sport games are best enjoyed with a ten-foot, lean-back approach".  I do agree but my computer has AMD Phenom processor (way better than ps3 or XBOX) and 4 GPU/ATI 3000 cards (over 2 GIG GPU power) with HD hookup to an upscaled 1080p TV.  Remote Microsoft controller etc. . . .ultimate Game Machine/server.

Buddy us tech guys at Go Daddy. . .. We LOVE our toys and have sports center on a lot too!  We all have computers (duh).

I hope you may reconsider and build a MORE POWERFUL NFL game for the PC using the LATEST and GREATEST technology out there to PUSH THE VISUAL ENVELOPE.  Make a PC version that shines.

Have the software connect to a server GoDaddy.com hosts for authentication, I will help if it will get you guys to build a PC version better than the rest.  DON'T GIVE UP ON THE PC, LONG LIVE PC GAMING!

Thanks,

Andrew Rulnick

I couldn't disagree more Andrew.  Being a fellow high end computer gamer i am glad that EA is dumping the PC for sports.  I for one have never liked the feel of sports games on a computer and they never performed as well as there console counterparts.

The one thing that you seem to be forgetting is that Madden on the PC was never next gen.  Madden 08 on the PC couldn't and didn't hold a candle to the 360/PS3 versions, so I really don't know why you are fretting about losing the game on PC.  All your super highend hardware wouldn't even factor in to the game at all so your claims of having the ultimate gaming system is moot.

Also you have to factor in the monetary factors.  Not everyone has high end PC's and the variables are too great therefore you will always receive the bottom end of the performance line.  That is why PC madden was always complimentary to PS2 Madden.

Now with everyone having 1 of 3 consoles its much easier to design for and with the dropping of PC, more resources can be dedicated to getting those platforms right.

Anyway if you are that highend of a gamer you should already have one of these consoles already.

Its sad but it's kind of true.  EA seems to focus on gimmicks each year to make each Madden stand apart from the last, instead of really exploring what players REALLY want.  They should be exploring why so many people liked NFL 2k5 and try to incorporate some of those strong points.  EA obviously knew that 2k had something with their 2k5 game otherwise the wouldn't have been prompted to spend all that cash to essentially close them out.  Having played 2k 5 the one thing I can say about 2k at that time was that there running game seemed more realistic as opposed to Maddens which seemed more tedious and unproductive.  Unfortunately the running game in madden hasn't improved much in the execution.  Maddens running game is flawed due largely to the unrealistic blocking schemes.  Defenders seem to magically come of blocks everytime the runner hits the hole and the lateral pursuit of the linebackers is very unrealistic, meaning too fast.
