Peter Moore About Peter

Draft Time

So I see the Dolphins have already signed Jake Long to a 5-year contract.  So much for any suspense on Saturday morning when the draft gets underway.

I hate to sound like a broken record, but I’ve mentioned a couple of times already that I’m getting excited for NFL Head Coach.  I keep seeing really good things, and think this is my kind of game.  Which is why I wanted to call your attention, if you haven’t already seen it, to our announcement today that we’re going to ship NFL Head Coach as a standalone game.  I have to admit, even I was surprised by how much feedback we’ve gotten the past few weeks since we announced it as a featured item of our Madden Collector’s edition.  That’ still going to be the first place to get it, but keep an eye out for NFL Head Coach on Sept. 2 on its own.

Incidentally, we also released a simulation of this weekend’s draft using the game engine from Head Coach.  We had Jake Long going No. 1.  Surprising from my perspective that we have seven ACC guys going in the first round.  I thought that was a basketball conference!  Not surprising was that USC led the way with four players in the first round.  And how about Cal’s DeSean Jackson, my own personal favorite in the draft.  He may be small, but whoever gets him is going to be happy they did.

PS. My day was officially ruined by Liverpool’s John Arne Riise’s tragic own goal with almost the last touch of the game versus Chelsea in the Champion’s League. Tough to go to Stamford Bridge and pull out a win now…

Hello Peter, just took a sneak peak at the weather enhancements that were being advertised today on the EA Sports offical site.  WOW is all I can say.  However, I say WOW not to be taken in a good way, but rather to symbolize my displeasure with what I see in the picture.  From the picture it is apparent that there have been no significant upgrades to the players models from last year.  Once again it seems that the Madden developers have focused their collective energies on the wrong things.  I could really care less if the snow looks deeper and if I could push a certain button to make a player celebrate a TD.  I want fatser, more responsive game play, better uniform options (new tape jobs, cleats, towels, hanging chinstraps, various sock styles), I also expected the 09 player models to show more muscled definition, jump higher, have varios running styles, to palm the ball with one hand, make better jukes, harder tackles, etc...  All in all, I had hoped this years version of Madden would be great and from what I have seen to this point, I will be passing on the 20th anninversary edition of Madden.  Unless Peter and his henchmen get their acts together quickly, I say we should all boycott Madden 09 to make our voices heard

Real glad you guys will be giving the option to allow consumers to purchase NFL Head Coach separately. It's still a sweet deal to get it with Madden though, especially if Madden can actually reach the expectations that it should for this year.

the dolphins might do way better this year. ahh maybe 4-12 still a huge improvement. city of miami is disgusting when it comes to sports. look at the heats what like 13 wins this yr lmao. i still think the pats are the team to beat in the nfl. there dynasty isnt over there a great team, well organized but they need some better cheating tatics.

and the worst team in the nfl this yr should be the jets. comon they cheated in week 2 forcing the ravens to go offside and still lost. jets should be like 1-15, maybe split with miami 1-1 for there only win. and what about the worst franchise in the nfl the arizona cardnals. i hope they make a effort this year. i think kurt warner is better fit then lierhart for them. warner is a veteren with lots of experice and superbowls. the cards are a young team on offence. im always right about who makes the superbowl, i said panters would when they did in 03. i think teams to watch in afc are pats an chargers (also the 2 most dominant teams in madden08) in the nfc i belive the eagles will be back and the gmen. i dont expect the packers to make the playoffs with favre reitered. as for the nfl suprising team i think the cards will go 10-6 to win there weak divsion.

I see Chelsea playing for a 0-0 draw and moving on to the final...

Either way, you'll most likely be getting an English Champions League Final this year. LOL.

Err, draft nicky, how can you comment about all that from a screenshot. The game isn't even done yet. "Faster more responsive gameplay?" Well, a still picture isn't going to reveal much, pal.

I still have hope for euphoria in Madden. Titles using that technology include future lucasarts games, and the GTA IV. youtube.com/watch

You've got some football demo in that tech video. It's what Madden needs, honestly.

The Head Coach game looks fantastic so far!  All we need is a PC version and NCAA Head Coach for next year.  That would be a dynamyte combo.  You could have coaches get offers from both levels.  The play designer feature alone would be worth it for those who don't really like the game but want to make custom plays for Madden/NCAA.

Ok I’m behind here, will Madden come with the full completed version of NFL Head Coach? I love the last installment. I own it on PC and PS2, cant wait for another one. This one had some serious downfalls but love the game and the idea anyways.  I really look forward to a team to spend some quality time on this release and not look at it as an add on. Please, please don’t disappoint me this year with minor upgrades and little gameplay. I really want this to be a good year for the EA sports division.

Ofcourse they will sell it as a stand alone probably at 60 bucks a pop, got to milk the Commercially induced morons of the Madden nation for every penny they got..

EA knows that it could package anything, stamp EA and the NFL on the box and it would sell like hot cakes.  EA knows its consumers are not really smart when it comes to what a quality football game should be. Its all about labels for the Madden Sheep.

Madden would've been the NBA Live of today if it wasn't for the Exclusive license deal and that is a fact.  2K was going to over take this stale series that should've been discontinued years ago. Now we will never know though, right Mr.Moore.

Don't buy Madden '09

EA is trying to dumb down every sport in gaming with their exclusive license deal crusade.

2K Sports is way better than anything EA sports can put out. EA knows this hence the license deal.

Pathetic

Boycott EA titles

Hmmm, lets see.  You are a consumer too so ergo you are not that smart either and by the context of your post, you certainly remove all doubt.

Head Coach 09 sounds promising and I hope there are improvements from the first one. I love the FIFA Manager / Total Club Manager-series games and have been hoping that eventually someone would put an American Football game out which was only about management. I'm huge on Madden, too, and look forward to the interesting innovations that the development team is looking to get across; there is, of course, a caveat to this. I am hoping that some of the slights which really drove people batty on the forums will be corrected this year (online glitching, disconnect losses, and issues with franchise mode). If those can be fixed and the new features implemented, '09 could be the year...

I'm not so much into the draft. Being a Raiders' fan (yeah, go ahead; laugh it up), I'm not all that excited about taking a running back in the fourth slot when the defense needs some more help up front and maybe another solid possession receiver. It will be interesting to see who attempts to make moves this year and I'm hoping the Raiders can get it together and get the pieces they need to continue that slow climb back to respectability.

Watching that John Arne Riise own goal broke my heart; not because I'm a Liverpool fan (I'm actually a Man United guy and have been proudly since the days of Big Ron) but rather because I like the player and it's got to be a very lonely feeling in the world knowing that might've cost your teammates a chance at Champions' League glory.

All of that said, I haven't heard you wax all that eloquently about NASCAR or the newly minted EASPORTS Football World site. What are your impressions concerning those?

Looks great Mr. Moore.   I would love to see some of that stuff that draft nicky said, but I don't think he has any right to complain based solely on those pics.

Where is Madden 09 for the PC. Will it be a new version or another PS2 retread like the last 4 years?

Mr Moore did you know that there were over 90 million discrete GPU's sold in 2007 with an average sale price of around $250USD? That is a very large market to ignore.

Just what we needed.  Less news about games and more about Madden on a dying platform.  Is there a way to ban these 5 to 10 people who keep complaining about Madden on the PC?  Mods supposedly watch this site so we can rid of these people.  We have already beat this topic to death.  It is extremely doubtful that EA Sports will want to puplish Madden on a dying console (The PC).  Can we move forward with different topics?

peter, not really sure if you browse through the comments or not, but i have to vent to you and i will try to do it in a respectful manner as i appreciate you providing us with a forum. as far as the picture, player models and comments from the developers it seems progress will not be made. the player models look exactly the same as last year and if the player models are the same then the gameplay and animations will probably be the same (which was bad) and a interview which a developer said "online weather will not be available"  screams to me "don't change anything! we have the nfl license! who cares who likes it! we will sell 10 million copies!" so sad, i though you having the background you do and being involved in the, at the time, revolutionary, 2k1 game, things would change for the better. i am keeping my expectations low so not to be disapointed.

Hello, Mr. Moore

I see a lot of Ncaa Football 09 stuff coming out latelty, Great!!!! video. for the first time you can

feel like the hightlights are right off College Game Day.  (still would like stands to blur as camera

pans on player in focus like a real highlight.) The top torso movement to a hit was nice .

Skepitcal about online leagues, just a

feeling, those things depend on people who's attention spans are as long as 10 min online

games of Call of Duty 4 that are the same over and over.   You know the demographic, the ones

that care about visors on the players or not. (nice photo by the way)   They don't care about

never seeing an intenitonal grouding (ever in hours and hours ;days upon days of playing) by

you or the computer no matter how high the slider is.

But I need to ask.  Will my stadiums be half full this year if my team sucks.  Will my fans boo for

the fith interception I throw.  Will the stadium be full of crickets during a home blowout loss or

euphoric if we beat LSU for the first time in 5 years ( How bout the announcers mentioning that

( first ever meeting; first win in x many tries, )  Will the endzones be full of people like any game

I ever saw (D-II level even) on tv or will you at least try to steal the stadium feel of last year 2k legends game.

We watch and play College Football for the passion, the hightlights on Espn, the Bcs

controversy even.  No one wants to win a hundred titles in a row year after year.  Ok the

demographic you pander to does.    But a select few want to take any; any team and play with

real football goals.  A game plan of sorts.  Today you must stop that running back hold him to a

hundred yards and make the team beat you through the air.  and if you do that and lose some

screen should pop up you accomplished your goal you lost but here's some bonus practice time

for your run stop defense.  Or you start the offseason and say i need to get better running .

Recruit the back  fix your run stats next season. Ok i went 4-8 but year three i can now focus

on my new running attack i earned bonus practice time for improving my goal of run production.

Real goals. Not go 100-1 for three years and win every award...

I really like the questions from Fifa that pop up that make you chose and they can drop or lower

fan base or chemistry.  I love the risk and reward.  We all know at the top level sports is did you

win it all .  but that is only 12 teams across all leagues in any year.  Why do sports/ games

forget stuff like Navy made their half century beating Nortre Dame last year bigger than any

game  Or Appy State In the Big House one of the greatest upset in Sports.   Stanford over USC i

believe Standford may have won before.

Go after the RPG fans out there.  your lineman doesnt' get beat all game you get training points

for new hand movements, upper and lower body strength. With all positions. Dont throw a pick

all game get field awarness so your qb vision widens(if still using this year ).  This can be all

turned off and let computer decide..

We love to recruit.  Thats why most of us buy this game.. let us grow our player in an intelligent

way and not just give up on them to the flashy new scrambling qb..

Would love to recruit system kids.....For the spread... pro style offence....  blitzing d's  and zone

vs man coverage defenses.  Get away from the stars.. I can and do try to recruit this way by i

don't feel the game compliments it well...   I would like to reall feel that i found the Tom Brady of

2stars for Notre dame because no one ahead of him could play zone coverage and the alumni

and papers have to eat crow cuz the man can play.. or fans like nebraska revolt over where is

the pound em down style we love.  Or get sold on ideas like the spread in Michigan. either the

team or coach and alumni have styles they want to see and it takes a while to change the fans

or you get run out of town for taking that flashy rocke arm qb that can't play in your system.

excited as always for the new College Game. Feel a little cheated because last year Ps2

was better than next gen and you know how much that costs.  this year i have to decide which

one to purchase the 360 or Ps3 model because I feel you gave up on Sony model in favor of

Microsoft and i only play games for this one so I don't want to be left out or wondering why my

experience isnt that good....       so yes your model is working. will buy another system play for

awhile and hope that next year my fans don't all jump like i just won the bsc title for something

as small as sack.

Timothy "I'm a Proud Madden Moron" Daley, You don't know me kiddo. I'm not a Madden Consumer and will never be.  EA Sports makes garbage arcade trash.  I only buy QUALITY SIM SPORTS GAMES and those come from 2K Sports.  So keep you on contributing to the destruction of sports gaming by buying this EA Annual Crapfest while I will enjoy the greatest Football Sim to date ALL PRO FOOTBALL 2K8.

Now back to your pen SHEEP!!!!!!!

Hank H should back up off mocking the posts of others..The reason this whole forum exhists is for gamers to express their opionions freely without being scrutinized by others.  If draft nicky wants to express his displeasure with the early screen shots of Madden 09 then so be it,  I tend to agree with Nicky that the original screen shot of Madden 09 looks pretty lackluster.  I guess we will get a better indication of what this years version of Madden will look like on draft day.  Lets just hope the game lives up to the hype b/c Madden has been extremely disappointing the last couple of years to say the least
