Peter Moore About Peter

Back from the FINAL FOUR!

I’m back from a great couple of days last weekend in San Antonio.  What a great place to go for the Final Four.  The weather was perfect and the fans were going crazy.  Especially the Kansas fans … and that was before last night’s game.

I even commented first thing Saturday morning that the Jayhawks fans really seemed to be in the majority.  I wasn’t able to stay through the game last night.  I can only imagine the scene after last night’s incredible comeback win.

I was down in San Antonio with our NCAA March Madness team, who was there on the ground all weekend interacting with all the college hoops fans.  We had videogame tournaments running at Hoop City as well as right off the Riverwalk at one of the local Champs stores there.  We also had a great chance to catch up with some partners and some old friends in town over the weekend.

If you’re a sports fan and you’ve never been to the Final Four – you’ve got to do it.

Wow! Great!!!  Must been fun.  Now ummm can you comment more on Maden PC version?  Are the plans right now not to bring the PC version back?  Is there anyway you can atleast do the PC community one favor and release a utility where we can edit things in the game more?  Players pictures...coaches pictures...stadium artwork...something?  Any patch with what was worked on before the plug was pulled?  Come on Mr. Moore....we have been here since the start of this Madden stuff.....atleast lets go out with some class.  Even if it is a money issue, most of us will atleast spend $10 on it to cover your costs.  When NFL2k5 did well....we didnt just leave you hanging.  So please dont do this to us...atleast give us a good bye gift.....a thank you...something.

Honestly, who cares about some rich guy that gets to do anything he wants. Why don't you think about the guys that are truely busting their butts to make ends meet. Some of us work really hard to support our families and the little enjoyment we look forward to each  year has been the pc version of Madden. I personally have made rosters for season play with the greatest players of alltime the past 5 years. One of my close friends and I have played a season using my rosters the past 4 years, but you now have taken the one outlet some of us had. A lot of us can't afford to go to the FINAL FOUR !  Why don't you do the right thing and port over the 360 version and keep the editing options in the game. If shipping is an issue, then set it up for download only.  I hope you sleep good at night knowing you screwed a lot of loyal customers!  One question, Did you EA boys pay anyone for Kansas to win just like you paid the NFL?

Why is EA shortchanging Wii owners by not including online for NCAA Football 09 when it was already included in Madden 08?

Are you guys trying to loose money.

My goodness, the PC gamers are still whining.  It's funny how some of you run around saying things like, "We're more mature than the console fanbase," and "those on the console aren't as smart as us on the PC."  Well, way to show your maturity and smarts by continuing to whine about there not being PC release this year.  LET IT GO!  You guys sound like a bunch of little children continuing to beg for a PC release.

The Final Four is about basketball.  Can we talk about some ideas on how to improve the basketball games?  College Hoops by 2K Sports was a far superior game to March Madness and has been this way for many years.  Is EA Sports committed to making a better game for 09 or can we expect a new cover with rehash inside?  This is a long way away but maybe the team is still in the listening to ideas mode.

Can we get any info for Tiger Woods 2009?  This should be released in September if the release date follows previous patterns.  I have asked in several posts about a casual golfing game.  Is this something that can be done by EA Sports?  A game similar to Hot Shots Golf would be greatly appreciated.  Any console release would be welcome but I can't see this type of title selling or performing well on the PC platform.

well how would we ever get that kind of money. to fly out so far and then those tickets expensive. i cant do that when i got to spend thousands on my console an madden. but hey ur the billionare seems easy for you.

when are we gona get some good news on madden09??? it seems you guys hide all the info until the gm is actully released. the new features for ncaa09 dont mean anything on nextgen unless you guys fix the game enigine an speed of the gm. if madden09 on nextgen isnt the right speed im not getting it, and im not getting ps2 either unless the madden challenge puts more attention on that. they did at first but then no video recaps after sf. time to have good old fashion fun and put down the video games.

Peter,

Not going to hammer you for going to the Final Four! That's cool hope I am in that situation someday.

I am new to this so sorry if this hs all ready been covered or I have missed it somewhere else but, it EA Sports ever going to be able yo get back in MLB again?  The baseball games that are out there now are just bad.  EA did it so much better.  Even the college game that was put out was better then the trash the these other companies are making.  I'm sure it may not be cheap but help a fellow baseball fan and gamer out.

Oh...and next year can the font/type on the NHL game be bigger.

Thanks

I've never said that...nor have I ever felt that way.  I have all the consoles also....madden is the best on the pc.  That's baby talk about pc users smarter than console....but I will say....If we let EA know loud and clear that we want it back....it is better than letting it go.  You have to let your voice be herd in order to do that.

Thanks Mr. Moore for atleast allowing us to vent and let our voice be herd.....But a utility pack...that we will download....that we will pay for....is a great idea to atleast settle us down until another pc version is made in the future.  I dont think that is hard to do...or too much to add.  Look at the gaming sites "no madden for the pc"....it is big news.  So I beg of you to atleast give us this gift.

I agree with Mark. Some of us do not buy tons of games a year and we actually look forward too Madden coming out on the PC. I figure I've been buying the Madden series for well over 10 years because from my experience its way better on the PC. Ive tried the Console versions and they just dont grab me. unless I feel like playing a quick game.  Maybe some are "whining" but for many of us we have continued to buy the product even when i stating to slide, in hopes of improvements.

Release something so that PC'ers can "make due". Ive spent alot of money on EA games over the years and do not feel like spending $500 on a new system to play sports games.

If you dont want to make it for the PC, fine. Let someone else have a chance to PC'ers have an outlet.

PC Gamer, Please Cease and desist and return to your World of WarCraft server in an orderly Fashion.  I have been a long time gamer(over 35 years) and I game on both consoles and PC.  I have never liked sports games on PC and quite frankly they are out of place there.  I for one am glad that you are dumping the PC.  Its obvious that there can't be a viable market for that platform and really you should be commended for sticking with it for as long as you did.

As far as these poor PC victims (sarcastic)  go out and buy a friggin 360 or PS3 and get with the times.  You can afford to put a 400$ video card or 2 into your PC but you cant afford to buy a next gen console.  They have a word for that and that word is "TOOL".

Quit your whining.  PC sports games have always sucked and that is why no one makes them.  At least EA catered to you for many years.  Be thankful.  Now quit your bitching and go buy a next gen console like the rest of humanity.

HERE IS WHAT IS REALLY IMPORTANT TO PETER MOORE AND CONSOLE GAMERS, more FLUFF for a FLAWED game.  Check out this survey EA has released:

Dear EA Sports Fan:

We want your input! We would like to ask you about some cool Madden items that we’re considering.

Here are a few questions for you to answer. Thank you for your time and valuable opinion.

1. On a scale of 1 – 10, how interested are you in getting a :60 minute Madden 20th Anniversary DVD with a playable demo of Madden 09 and 20 years of NFL highlights?

2. How much would you pay for a :60 minute DVD with a playable demo of Madden 09 and 20 years of NFL highlights?

$2

$5

$10

$15

$20

I wouldn’t pay for this

3. On a scale of 1-10, how interested are you in receiving a Donruss trading card (1 of 20 collectible cards) that features stats on Madden 09 players to help you build your team?

4. How much would you pay for the trading card?

.50

$1

$2

I wouldn't pay for this

5. On a scale of 1 -- 10, how likely would you be to go to a store that offered these items FREE with a purchase (assume cost is less than $10?)

Thanks for your responses!

WHAT A FREAKIN JOKE!  You're gonna cancel Madden PC in favor of a stupid DVD and TRADING CARD THAT YOU WILL MOST LIKELY CHARGER PEOPLE FOR!!!!!!!

I've been a loyal fan of Madden since '97 (I've prefered Tecmo Bowl in my younger days). Each and every year it gets a little better gameplay wise, however it's the little things in the game that seem to never improve. I would like to see shots of cheerleaders (if that certain team even has a squad), the Lambeau Leap, the Terrible Towels waving around, the Dog Pound, the insane Raiders fans, "J-E-T-S"....etc. just to make the overall experience playing the game more enjoyable. Peter Moore and his entire EA staff should really concentrate on this. They have already upset the PC gamers, and they really should avoid letting us console gamers down.

Far be it for EA to be "letting down" console gamers, however this poster does have a point about the lack of attention over the years to the crowd.  It's true that EA is pretty good with the "fluff" as one poster above stated but I also would love to see more stadium specific graphics like those found unique to baseball stadiums.  At this point in gaming atmosphere is very important and subtle things like the Lambeau leap and the J_E_T_S chants etc just add to the overall visceral experience of the game.  You have given us great gameplay over the years but this is next gen and its time to fill that 50GB Blu Ray Disc.

Its time to start focusing on the PS3 as the forefront.  You have a 50GB canvas with which to work with.  Let's get crack'n Pete.

Dear Mr. Moore,

Glad to hear that you had a great time at the Final Four. I had the privilege of going to last year’s Final Four in Atlanta, and you’re right--it is an awesome experience even if the team you are rooting for isn’t in it.  Anyway, with college basketball still fresh in your mind, I thought I would take this opportunity to share a few of my insights on how you guys can improve NCAA March Madness 09.  Please excuse my bluntness, but it was fairly obvious that College Hoops 2K8 was, by far, the superior college basketball videogame.  Granted, it didn’t have the simplistic post-up game like MM 08 did, but in terms of game play, it clearly destroyed MM 08.  That being said, I wanted to take the time to offer some of my insights on how you guys can improve MM 09 and finally get it “over the hump.”  Here are my suggestions:

1) College Fight Songs:  Why do a large portion of the schools not have their fight song accurately incorporated into the game? For many years, 2K has accurately depicted every school’s fight song in their game. Please do some research and make sure that every school has their actual fight song in the game.

2) 6th Man & Toughest Places to Play: I know you guys have announced that these two features will be in NCAA Football 09, so I assume that they will also be carried over into MM 09.

3) College Mascots: Where are all the mascots?  Granted, I know that several of the schools do have their mascots in the game, but there are also numerous teams whose mascots are not in the game.  Again, please research this.

4) College Coaches: Where are the coaches on the sideline?  You guys did a great job putting NBA coaches on the sideline in NBA Live 08, so I hope that you do the same for MM 09. It would look really cool if they were pacing back and forth, calling out plays, and screaming at the officials.  Again, this is something that 2K had in their game (Actually, they had this in 2K7).  Now that you have the collegiate license, there is no excuse as to why there are no coaches on the sideline in the game.

5) Gameplay: MM 08 was TOO slow.  I think that you did this to encourage gamers to utilize the new post-up feature, but it really hurt the gameplay.  College basketball is all about the fast breaks, exciting plays, and high intensity moments--it is not a slow game.  Please speed it up.  Also, please fix the bugs.  Passes are intercepted at an irregular rate, players get bumped out-of-bounds TOO much using the lockdown stick, and there TOO many over and backs.  Players also miss too many open shots--especially 3’s.  Players seem like they are “skating” on the court because their motions are clunky.  The rebounding engine is also inconsistent and choppy.  In short, I think that you need to completely dump the game play engine that you have in MM right now, because it is severely hurting the game’s quality.

6) New Name: Personally, I’m also sick of the bland title of the game as well.  Start from scratch like you did when changed Triple Play Baseball to MVP Baseball, and give the game an awesome new title.  Here are two of my suggestions: “NCAA Hoops 09” or “NCAA Basketball 09.”

7) Pontiac Virtual Final Four: For the past few years, 2K has featured their virtual NCAA Tournament, I hope you guys take advantage of the college license next year and do this.

Thank you very much for reading and listening to my thoughts on MM 09. I have been an EA Sports gamer since I started playing video games, and contrary to what some think, I like the changes that you are implementing at EA.  There will ALWAYS be people who are unhappy with the way a game plays, but I think that the vast majority of MM players will agree with these suggestions.  Again, thank you for listening and best of luck to you and your company in the 2K negotiations and upcoming fiscal year.

It looks like Mr. Moore is taking a vacation from his blog.  I hope that he is implementing our ideas for the new football games and report to us soon.  I have an idea for the proposed merger with 2K Games.  Can we fire the employees in charge of March Madness and retain the employees that worked on College Hoops so that the consumers don't get a rehash with a new cover?  The employees working on College Hoops have produced a superior product so maybe rewarding these employees would be good and firing the employees that made a sub-par game (March Madness 2005-2009) should be punished for not producing a high quality game as consumers expect.  Another idea is to NOT keep Bill Rafferty on commentary.  This is the worst college announcer in College basketball on the air and 100 times worse in the videogame.  "I can't think of anything positive to say about this game."  This is what Rafferty says at halftime for every single game that I have played.

Is there a way to make the commentary in NCAA series not so repetitive.  I have all of the quotes from Corso, Herbstreit and Nessler all memorized.  I realize that this is difficult to do on computers but I can't be the only one complaining about the announcing.  I would also like to see College Gameday incorporated into this game as it is on the PS2 versions.  The graphics were horrendous for this feature so I would like to be able to recognize Corso from Herbstreit.  They do different on TV and in person but this is not in the game.

Have a nice vacation or mini-vacation and we hope to hear from you soon.

Peter, the signature celebration aspect of Madden 09 sounds like a good addition to this years instalment.  However, I wish that the makers of Madden would focus on making the necessary in game adjustments before they start tinkering with the TD celebrations.  I want signature styles to extend to the on-filed action.  Put Peyton Manning's throwing motion in the game.  I want Champ Bailey's pre-snap, back to the sideline stance to be in the game, I want Reggie Bush's sprinter like running style to be in the game, I also want Charles Woodson's to palm the ball with one hand when he intercepts a pass and his low bump-n-run run croutch Deion Sander's like pre-snap stance to be in the game.  I want Asante Samuel to carry the ball in a rock the baby like motion when he makes a run back for a TD,  I also want Chad Johnson's diffrent colored, unbuckled chin strap to be a part of the game.  I want NIke and Addidas cleats to be added to the uniform screen and If that can't be done why not let different cleats to be unlocked when certain acomplishments are reached ala NBA LIVE.  I want Tripled up socks, low socks, high socks (come on Pete Al Harris's socks are up to his neck while Jason Taylor's are so low you can barley see them), better tape jobs on the ankles (you have to see show sock when you tape a players ankle, I mean having the tape job go beyond a players calf almost without showing any white of the sock is a stupid look that has plagued the player models in Madden for the last two years) to be in the game.  I want the players to have towels (which is major part of any stylish player's uniform) added to their uniform options.  I want players playing with greater passion and the annoucers to be over the top rather then subdued and sleepish sounding.  I know this comment sounds like an I want, I want, I want post but if a few of my suggestions would be taken into account that would be great.  Thanks Peter

And make players more agile when you want to dodge tackles with out even using the juke button, i hope the user catching is improved on offense and defense. include more catching simulations, release a couple of screen shots for us, make the way the qb drops back look more natural. have more different pairs of cleats on the game and, make the players bodies move naturally : tackling running catcing throwing, juking, make the gameplay faster too pleasee I MISS PLAYING MY FAVORITE GAME, I WANT TO BE A NEXT GEN MADDEN PLAYER, PLEASE LET THIS BE OUR YEAR

Hey i'm new to all of this but if i can say something then  let me start in basketball season. Why don't you like to put draft class in MARCH MADDNESS? LIVE is dumb without LOTTERY PICKS!

You all seem to lack the concentration of basketball as you do for football. Now i'm a sports player and videogame sports player, and for NCAA and MADDEN interconnetion i love it! I'm very frustrated, however at the basketball games concept especially when sports is sports and every sports owner has more money than they do players it should be obvious to you people to do this. I don't remember that LIVE and MARCH MADDNESS where ever in this tandem. When i finished both seasons of tthe basketball games i was very disappointed and it upset me to the point last years basketball game for me was the 2K series both pro and college! All i'm saying is that it would make two good basketball games be as interesting and more fun to play if this feature is not neglected. I only bought LIVE and MARCH MADNESS for the fact that Microsoft stopped making games for Xbox then got a PS2 bought 2K's games and was disgusted at the pro game. If this neglect is like that next year i'm never going to get EA basketball games.Think

of how many other people who like basketball as much as football feel.Don't let us down now i know memory space isn't that much to use.

I ran into this problem with the XBOX360 and NCAA FOOTBALL, you have to play a whole season before MADDEN can register your college players on to  the draft class of the next MADDEN season. What's the matter here? Why is it so hard to keep things in the flow of transition? I feel like I'm accomplishing something then bammm! it's a backward concept. Please fix this problem so that incoming college players are stored on file and to be used when ready. Because I don't feel like NOT starting a season or playing two seasons on the same game, VERY FRUSTRATING!

I went on youtube looking to see an ingame video of NFL Fever...While it is obvious that the shape of the Madden player models is much more advanced then the original xbox version of NFL Fever, I found it noteworthy that in the year 2004 the makers of NFL Fever where able and detail oriented enough to put relistic looking towels and hand warmers on their player models.  Madden still has not developed the abilty to put either on its player models..This example just goes to show how lacking the game develpoment team at EA Sports really is.  The game makers at EA have rested on their laurels of yester for far to long.  It is time for Peter and his henchmen to step their game up, so to speak, and to bring their games into the new era and stop producing terrible games like Madden 07 for the PS3

I would suggest going to EA.com for some updated info. on the NFL Head Coach Game.  Anyone who is interested in that game should check it out.  The game sounds good although I question why it is being released only in a bundle with Madden.  If I don't care for Madden and just want an in-depth game like NFL Head Coach, what do I do?  The idea that you can conduct trades duriing the draft is pretty realistic.  Can I start trades while in the draft?  Do I get to look at my player situation?  I found in the previous version of NFL Head Coach that the computer owners wanted to sucker me into taking a worse player 90% of the time so I want to be able to look at both ratings (My player and the proposed player).  Can this result in draft picks?

This new information is getting me excited for the new version of NFL Head Coach.  It is obvious that someone within EA Sports is listening to gripes and concerns that others had with the old game.  Keep improviing it and I can't wait to buy it in August.

I just played NCAA 08 for the XBox 360 last night and I thought of a question while playing.  Is there a way to silence the "Ask Corso" commentary since it is very common for Corso's advice to talk over the commentary that is being provided by the TV broadcast?  I can usually hear both at the same time which is doubly annoying.  This seems like a logical and simple fix but who knows.

I am very unhappy about your failure to release a Madden for PC.  I have bought it every year for the last 13 years.

I don't believe that it is ethical to sign an exclusive contract with the NFL, and kill the product.  Furthermore, I believe there may be some legal anti-competition problems for you, at least I hope so.

If you had no exclusive license, and just said that it didn't make financial sense to develop the game, I could understand.  If there was not an exclusive license, and no one else released an NFL PC game, then clearly the market would not support it.  But your exclusive license removes the market as a factor, and introduces anti-competitive trusts into the picture.

Oh, and go back to England Soccer Girl.  :-)

It is a legal unjustice that anti-trust laws permit EA to own the NFL exclusive liscence. It kills competition on a small scale, a scale not large enough to be effected by these laws. After handing us PC gamers watered down ports for years, why not give us something special instead of a stick up our @ss. You seem really confident that NFL HC 09 will sell really well. So well that you have to bundle it with Madden 09 (sarcasm). I hope your fucking NFL HC sells really well, you jackass.

Where is Madden 09 for the PC. Will it be a new version or another PS2 retread like the last 4 years?

Mr Moore did you know that there were over 90 million discrete GPU's sold in 2007 with an average sale price of around $250USD? That is a very large market to ignore.
